On March 4, 2016, the Office of Accreditation (Ministry of Science and Technology) formally awarded the ISO 15189:2012 certification to the Laboratory Department of Vinmec Times City International General Hospital. To date, Vinmec Times City is one of the few hospitals nationwide to have received this certification for three laboratory specialties: Hematology, Biochemistry, and Microbiology.
The Office of Accreditation (Ministry of Science and Technology) awarded the ISO certification to the Laboratory Department of Vinmec Times City International General Hospital.
"There are over 3,000 testing facilities nationwide. Vinmec Times City is one of 15 hospitals/research institutes in Hanoi and one of 42 hospitals/research institutes nationwide with a laboratory that has received the ISO 15189 certification. Achieving the ISO 15189:2012 certification guarantees the accurate and reliable testing quality of Vinmec Times City International General Hospital. We are considering selecting the Laboratory Department of Vinmec Times City International General Hospital as a facility for mutual recognition assessment by the Asia-Pacific International Accreditation Organization," stated Mr. Vũ Xuân Thủy, Director of the Office of Accreditation (Ministry of Science and Technology), when presenting this important certificate to Vinmec Times City International General Hospital on the afternoon of March 4, 2016.

What is ISO 15189:2012?
ISO 15189:2012 (equivalent to National Standard TCVN 15189:2014) is a standard that specifies requirements for the competence and quality of medical laboratories. This standard is based on the requirements of ISO/IEC 17025 and ISO 9001, with additional specific requirements for ensuring quality in medical testing.
ISO 15189:2012, titled "Medical Laboratories - Requirements for Quality and Competence," was issued on November 1, 2012, replacing the previous ISO 15189:2007 standard. The updated version includes more stringent criteria, progressively improving professional quality and management capabilities.
ISO 15189 includes 15 management-related requirements, similar to the management requirements in ISO/IEC 17025 and the system management requirements in ISO 9001:2008, and 10 technical requirements that ensure quality in laboratory testing, such as:
- Competence and skills of laboratory personnel
- Control of environmental conditions
- Control of laboratory equipment
- Preparation prior to testing
- Control of testing processes
