Recently, Vinmec Phu Quoc International Hospital’s mission is “Healthcare with talents, professional ethics, and empathy”, cooperating with Corona company to organize a communication seminar, sharing about the common sexually transmitted diseases (STIs) with over 200 company employees to enhance their knowledge of STIs and preventative measures.
At the seminar, Dr. Võ Hà Băng Sương – General Internal Medical Physician, presented crucial information on STIs and safe sex methods to prevent infection. Dr Sương emphasized that: “STIs are completely preventable if we have basic knowledge of sexual health and are aware of individual protection.”

The doctor also shared that some common STIs in young people such as syphilis, genital warts, gonorrhea, HIV, etc tend to increase in incidence (infection rate), especially within the LGBT community, even so many patients do not know their exact infection time. STIs affect not only physical health but also the mental health of the patients. Besides, the lack of disease knowledge and the feeling of shame are the barriers between the patients and the medical approach, treatment, and preventing community transmission.
At the seminar, Corona’s employees shared and posed questions about the prevention and treatment of STIs. All questions were received and answered by Dr Sương with her practice experience, insight, and compassion, this made students excited and loved their university’s major more. After the two-hour vibrant discussion session, “The common STIs” seminar concluded attendees gained valuable and up-to-date knowledge from Dr Vo Ha Bang Suong.

Following the program, many participants come to STI screenings positively at the hospital. Several individuals scheduled consultations for pre-exposure prophylaxis and post-exposure prophylaxis methods for HIV. Many young individuals are also more comfortable when they share their gender with a doctor to get the most specific advice, although they did not reveal it before and then struggled with many worries about their illness.
Through this seminar, Vinmec Phu Quoc Hospital hopes to help raise community awareness regarding the prevention, early detection, accurate diagnosis, and effective treatment of STIs, including HIV. Moreover, Vinmec Phu Quoc International Hospital will always be a place the island community trusts for healthcare, protecting and enhancing their health journey.
