Bringing high-quality healthcare to every corner: 300 people in Vinh Long province receive free screening

On June 30, 2023, the Cardiovascular Center, Vinmec Central Park International General Hospital organized a seminar to update knowledge and discuss cardiovascular disease treatment with doctors from Vinh Long General Hospital. Also here, people were screened for cardiovascular disease completely free of charge.

By June 2023, when the team of doctors from the Cardiovascular Center came to examine patients at Vinh Long General Hospital, the health of Ms. Thach Thi Bonl (56 years old, Khmer ethnic group) was very weak. She had a history of heart failure, mitral valve regurgitation, and had a biological valve replaced 12 years ago, so she is now very weak. Due to her family's financial difficulties, she has not been able to have another surgery. Fortunately, doctors at Vinh Long General Hospital arranged for Ms. Bonl to be examined by Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Van Phan when the Center visited the hospital. That opportunity helped her have heart valve replacement surgery by Associate Professor Phan, and these days, her health has recovered very well and her spirit is optimistic. Ms. Bonl feels like her life has been reborn for the second time.

Ms. Bonl is one of nearly 10 patients with cardiovascular disease who were examined by Vinmec doctors when they came to Vinh Long in June 2023, then were taken to Vinmec Central Park International General Hospital for surgery. In particular, there are cases of heart surgery for the poor and ethnic minorities who are supported with surgery costs.

From June to November 2023, doctors at Vinmec Central Park Cardiovascular Center had 2 rounds of examinations for patients in Vinh Long. With the effective coordination between cardiologists from Vinh Long General Hospital and Vinmec, 300 people and patients in Vinh Long and neighboring provinces have been examined and screened for cardiovascular diseases. Thereby, many cases with diseases have been detected in time, consulted and given treatment regimens right during the examination or transferred to surgery at Vinmec Central Park International General Hospital (HCMC).

Also within the framework of this activity, Vinmec doctors organized sessions to exchange experiences in cardiovascular treatment with colleagues in Vinh Long. The new techniques shared by Vinmec doctors at scientific seminars are all new techniques in cardiovascular intervention and surgery today. Among them, Vinmec is one of the few hospitals in Vietnam that has taken the lead and achieved many successes.

Prof. Dr. Vo Thanh Nhan, Director of Vinmec Central Park Cardiovascular Center, shared about the transcatheter aortic valve replacement technique (TAVI). This is an advanced cardiovascular intervention technique that Prof. Nhan is currently a training expert as well as the only person capable of performing independently in Vietnam. From 2017 to the present, Prof. Vo Thanh Nhan has performed more than 100 TAVI cases with a success rate of over 95%. Prof. Nhan's experience in performing TAVI is currently considered equivalent to that of experts in the Southeast Asian region.

Doctors at Vinh Long General Hospital also had the opportunity to discuss with Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Phan - Deputy Director of the Cardiovascular Center - Vinmec Central Park International General Hospital about atrial fibrillation surgery. Associate Professor Phan is currently one of the leading cardiovascular surgeons in Vietnam in the treatment of atrial fibrillation with radiofrequency waves. In addition, at the workshop, Master, Specialist Level 2 Doctor Huynh Hoang Khang, an expert with more than 20 years of experience in cardiovascular surgery, shared the technique of coronary artery bypass surgery without using an extracorporeal circulation machine.

In recent times, Vinmec Central Park Cardiovascular Center has regularly organized cooperation activities to exchange experiences, aiming to support the team of doctors and medical staff at the provincial level in the Mekong Delta and Southeast regions to have more access to advanced treatment methods. With the mission of "bringing the best service to all people", Vinmec's free screening programs are continuously organized in many places, helping people detect early symptoms of disease and providing opportunities for high-quality examination, diagnosis and treatment. Through meaningful coordination with doctors at Vinh Long General Hospital, more than 300 participants were able to raise awareness, improve their healthcare knowledge and detect potential diseases early for timely treatment.
