On September 12, in Hanoi, the Vinmec Healthcare System was honored by the Asian Hospital Management Association as the "Most Advanced Hospital in Vietnam" and "Patient Safety." Winning awards in both of these important categories acknowledges Vinmec's efforts to enhance healthcare service quality and promote operational management according to the highest international standards.
Out of 500 projects from 129 hospitals in 17 countries, Vinmec was selected and honored with two important awards: the "Most Advanced Hospital in Vietnam" award for the project "Vinmec Rising 2018: A New Approach to Enhancing Employee Engagement in Creative, Innovative, and Quality Improvement Activities" and the "Patient Safety" award for the "Medication Error Reduction Program at Vinmec Times City Hospital"
The Vinmec Rising 2018 competition was the first comprehensive innovation initiative in Vietnam's healthcare sector. Unlike the traditional approach of hiring external consultants or having a designated quality improvement unit, this competition took a more holistic and sustainable approach. It engaged all Vinmec staff in proposing and implementing innovative ideas and quality improvement initiatives across the organization. This initiative not only encouraged creativity but also fostered a culture of continuous improvement among Vinmec's employees, directly contributing to the hospital's commitment to providing high-quality healthcare services.
Through the Vinmec Rising 2018 competition, several significant improvements were made to streamline processes and enhance the quality of care:
- 95% reduction in administrative work for doctors, allowing them to focus more on their expertise and spend more time with patients.
- 100% of outpatient prescriptions underwent a review process to ensure the safe and effective use of medications.
- 30% reduction in ambulance response times, increasing the likelihood of successful emergency interventions.
The competition not only contributed to an enhanced patient experience but also boosted labor productivity and reduced operational costs at the hospital. Furthermore, it fostered a culture of innovation across the entire system, with the leadership continually valuing and supporting ideas for improvement and proactive participation in quality enhancement.
Similar to the Vinmec Rising initiative, the Medication error reduction program implemented at Vinmec Times City Hospital successfully brought together doctors, nurses, and pharmacists with a shared goal of ensuring patient safety and peace of mind. In this program, medication errors at the hospital are reported not to blame individuals, but to analyze the root causes and intervene promptly, preventing the recurrence of systemic issues.
Through this initiative, Vinmec Times City Hospital has successfully cultivated a culture of proactive reporting of medication errors—one of the most common types of errors in healthcare worldwide.
"With the success of these two projects, Vinmec has built a solid foundation for a safe environment for both patients and healthcare staff, based on the active and creative participation of every member within the system," shared Ms. Lê Thúy Anh, CEO of Vinmec Healthcare System.
These two awards are international recognition of Vinmec's efforts to improve service quality and expertise in recent years.
The awards were announced and presented during the Asian Hospital Management Conference (HMA) held from September 11-12 in Hanoi.
This is the second time Vinmec has participated in the HMA Conference. Previously, at the 2015 HMA Conference, Vinmec Times City Hospital was awarded the "Most Progressive Hospital in Vietnam" award for the "Improving Hand Hygiene Compliance" program—a project that emphasized the significance and importance of infection prevention and control in hospitals.
