Vinmec became a COVID-19 treatment center during the pandemic outbreak in Ho Chi Minh City

When the COVID-19 pandemic erupted in Ho Chi Minh City, Vinmec Central Park, a member of Vinmec with a spirit of service, officially became a COVID-19 treatment hospital. Throughout July and August 2023, following the HCMC Health Department's 3-4-5 stratification model, the hospital received and treated severe and critical COVID-19 cases requiring mechanical ventilation, dialysis, and ECMO therapy…

On July 25, 2021, the hospital began treating its first COVID-19 cases. Just 10 days later, in the midst of the intense pandemic situation, the leadership of Vinmec Health System and Vinmec Central Park decided to halt all regular medical services. The hospital focused its efforts on both receiving and treating COVID-19 patients and preparing facilities to expand the treatment area, with the aim of transforming into a dedicated COVID-19 patient care hospital.

Within 24 hours of the call to action by the Chairman of the Group and the leadership of Ho Chi Minh City, thousands of Vingroup employees, including many Vinmec members from Da Nang, Nha Trang, Phu Quoc, and Ho Chi Minh City, were at the forefront, quickly engaging in task training and rapidly dispersing to sampling points to serve the community.

Vinmec mobilized a large force of staff and financial resources to support manpower and materials for Ho Chi Minh City in the fight against the pandemic. On August 16, 2021, Vinmec Central Park Hospital officially transitioned its function to a COVID-19 patient care and treatment hospital with a capacity of 90 intensive care beds and 2 intensive care units and established a home treatment team for F0 COVID-19 patients.

Reflecting on those historic days, conditions in the outbreak areas were tough, movement was inconvenient, and meals were irregular. Those working in the heart of the pandemic had to work continuously for many hours in protective gear under the summer heat, with a sampling workload many times higher than expected. Vinmec staff and volunteers also faced significant external pressures, but they persevered, adapted quickly, and met the real-world demands.

After completing the COVID-19 response mission, Vinmec Central Park scaled down its patient treatment activities from September 21, 2021. By October 1, 2021, the hospital officially resumed its regular medical services alongside COVID-19 treatment.

Within over four months, from July 25 to December 31, 2021, Vinmec Central Park treated 1,036 patients, with 400 of them being hospitalized. The hospital mobilized its entire workforce to serve COVID-19 treatment with an on-site model and also sent personnel to support treatment in Binh Duong. Beyond their professional roles, non-clinical staff supported operational tasks such as cooking, transporting goods, and cleaning, contributing to the successful pandemic response in Ho Chi Minh City at that time.

In recognition of its efforts in combating the pandemic, Vinmec Central Park Hospital was honored to receive numerous commendations and expressions of gratitude from various authorities. These included a certificate of merit from the Ho Chi Minh City Police Department and a visit of appreciation from the Chairman of Long An Province, acknowledging the hospital's support in conducting testing during the peak of the outbreak.
