Summary:
Objective: Research, development, and application of dose-volume histogram data analysis software, RTplanEVA, to increase the accuracy, objectivity, and efficiency in the process of evaluating circular volume modulation radiotherapy plans at Vinmec Times City International General Hospital. RTplanEVA is specifically designed to evaluate head and neck plans, but it can also be applied to all other regions.
Subjects and methods: A total of 15 head and neck cancer patients received volumetric arc-modulated radiotherapy at Vinmec-Times City International General Hospital from January 2015 to January 2017. Each patient had 2 plans created on the Eclipse radiotherapy planning system version 13.0: A test plan that did not meet the requirements when evaluated by manual method and a plan that met the requirements. To evaluate these plans using RTplanEVA software, each plan was exported to a standard format file containing dose-volume histogram data. These data files were then read and processed by RTplanEVA software designed on the Matlab programming language platform. RTplanEVA performed automatic plan evaluation based on the analysis of the plan's dose-volume histogram data. The accuracy of RTplanEVA was verified by comparing the plan evaluation results on the software with the results of manual plan evaluation.
Results: RTplanEVA has been successfully researched and developed. For each circular volumetric modulated radiotherapy plan, the evaluation time using RTplanEVA is about 05 seconds, while manual plan evaluation takes about 20 minutes and can also be subject to errors due to human mistakes.
Conclusion: RTplanEVA has been researched and developed and can be effectively used in evaluating circular volumetric modulated radiotherapy plans at Vinmec Times City International General Hospital.
