1. Introduction
Kidney transplantation in Vietnam has been performed since 1992. Vinmec Hospital is the first private hospital in Vietnam to perform kidney transplantation. Therefore, we would like to present the initial results of the method of harvesting kidneys from living donors for transplantation by hand-assisted laparoscopic surgery at Vinmec Hospital in Hanoi.
2. Research method
A prospective study with kidney donation patients at Vinmec International Hospital from April 2017 to June 2018.
3. Results and discussion
From April 2017 to June 2018, we performed kidney transplantation from living donors using the laparoscopic method with the assistance of hands. There were 9 donors related to the transplant patients and 20 unrelated pairs. 20 males (68.9%), 9 females (31.1%). Average age: 34.7 ± 12.68; the youngest was 19 years old, and the oldest was 62 years old. Donors were mainly between 20 and 40 (20 cases). Average surgical time (from the time of incision to the time of closing the skin of the last nose): 161 ± 48 minutes. Time of hot renal ischemia: 3.51±1.6 minutes, shortest 2 minutes, longest 9 minutes. The function of the remaining kidney after transplantation: average urine: 2569±406 ml, average blood creatinine: 87.7±22.1 mmol/l. Average hospital stay: 5.52±0.83 days. No case had to be converted to open surgery. No deaths.
4. Conclusion
The method of laparoscopic nephrectomy with hand support for transplantation from living donors is safe and aesthetic, has few complications, and patients recover quickly after surgery.
