Currently, hospital-acquired infections remain a challenge for hospitals in Vietnam and around the world, with the mortality rate due to hospital-acquired infections in intensive care units being 35-45%. In Vietnam, a study of 9,345 patients in 10 hospitals showed that the rate of hospital-acquired infections was 5.8% and hospital-acquired pneumonia was 55%. Patients with hospital-acquired infections must be treated with new-generation antibiotics, which are expensive.

Realizing the importance of infection control, right from the beginning of its operation, Vinmec Times City has attached great importance to this issue, in which hand hygiene is one of the priority goals. By complying with hand washing and disinfection before the examination, Vinmec medical staff have prevented patients from the risk of infection, ensuring a safe environment for the treatment and recovery process. In addition, Vinmec has a standard isolation room system; strictly implementing isolation, especially for multi-drug resistant bacteria; implementing measures to prevent surgical site infections, implementing operating room safety checklists... In particular, Vinmec also has specialized staff in charge of infection surveillance.

The project "Hand Hygiene Compliance Improvement" is one of several patient safety practices that integrate advanced standards and world-class procedures into Vinmec's hospital environment, alongside efforts to enhance professional quality. In 2015, Vinmec Times City also successfully met 1,160 stringent standards of JCI – the globally recognized "Gold Seal" for healthcare quality accreditation – becoming the first general hospital in Vietnam to achieve this prestigious certification.
