"Phu Quoc Vinmec" Training CPR skills for healthcare staff in the entire region

On July 20 and 21, 2023, Vinmec International General Hospital in Phu Quoc, in collaboration with Bach Mai Hospital and Hanoi University of Medicine, successfully organized a basic life support (BLS) training program for staff from health centers in the wards and communes across the city.
This is a fundamental training program on Basic Life Support (BLS) for healthcare facilities at the local commune level. The program aims to be expanded to the community in order to increase the number of people trained in emergency response and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) for cases of drowning and cardiac arrest at the scene before patients are transferred to the hospital.
The training program has the participation of lecturer Dr. Khuong Quoc Dai (Emergency Center A9, Bach Mai Hospital), Dr. Tran Huyen Trang (Department of Emergency and Intensive Care, Hanoi University of Medicine), and Dr. Ho Dang Minh Hoang (Department of Emergency Resuscitation, Vinmec International Hospital Phu Quoc). They delivered specialized lectures on the theory of basic cardiopulmonary resuscitation; students practiced with models and through simulated scenarios. Then they obtained feedback and scoring from the expert instructors based on individual and team performance.

According to the survey, we received very positive feedback from the training participants. “The instructors of the training program delivered lectures and practical sharing that were very amazing and easy to understand. Additionally, in the practical sessions, although we did not directly perform emergency care on real patients but only practiced with models, I and other participants found it very easy to visualize the handling methods, problem-solving skills, and to develop skills for responding to emergencies and providing timely care”' , shared by one participant after the training session.
Dr. Khuong Quoc Dai and Dr. Tran Huyen Trang, instructors of the BLS training program, expressed their happiness in participating in the sharing and training at Phu Quoc Island, where the primary healthcare system in the local communities still copes with many challenges, specifically regarding the capacity for emergency resuscitation for both residents and tourists. Besides, the two specialists also highly appreciated Vinmec International General Hospital in Phu Quoc for its thorough and complete preparations regarding the place and teaching materials, which contributed to the successful execution of the program
According to Dr. Ho Dang Minh Hoang, this is not his first time participating in organizing BLS training programs. "Regularly, Vinmec International General Hospital in Phú Quốc organizes short training courses on emergency resuscitation for staff at hotels, resorts, and tourism facilities in the area. This program is special as we and our colleagues from Bạch Mai Hospital and Hanoi Medical University Hospital, directly support skills training and certificates to doctors and nurses from healthcare facilities on Phú Quốc Island”,  Dr. Hoang shared.
Vinmec International General Hospital in Phú Quốc believes that through this program, the trainees will be more proficient in the initial management of cases requiring cardiopulmonary resuscitation when they return to their local communities. Furthermore, there will be specific training courses for local residents on emergency resuscitation which is suitable for the orientation and facilities of each unit.
