Warning: Breast tumor in puberty

The breasts of girls in puberty will begin to develop fast to improve the physiological functions of the body. However, today, due to many factors such as environment, nutrition and physiological changes, the phenomenon of early puberty in girls is on the rise. As a result, many young people between the ages of 13 and 25, when their breasts are developing, are also at risk of tumor-like lesions that can be quite large in size. Unfortunately, due to the limited awareness of the people as well as some doctors about breast pathology at this age, many young people have let their breast tumors develop to a large size, causing difficulties in treatment and affecting their health.

Patient DTT, born in 2002, is an international student returning to Vietnam during the summer vacation. During this holiday, the patient went for a general health check-up at a medical facility and shared with the doctor that she felt a lump in her breast. However, at the examination facility, the patient encountered a negative reaction from the examining doctor because the doctor thought that at such a young age, there could not be a breast tumor and did not conduct a more thorough evaluation. After being advised by relatives, patient D. went to the Breast Center, Vinmec Times City International General Hospital for a re-examination. Here, after performing the necessary tests and diagnosis, the patient was diagnosed with three breast tumors with the following sizes: 26.6 x 13.2mm; 20.7 x 14.3 x 6.5mm; 11.8 x 5.4 x 9.5mm.

After consulting and assessing the patient's condition, doctors at the Breast Center, Vinmec Times City International General Hospital planned surgery to safely remove the tumors for the patient before returning to study abroad to ensure health and reduce the risk of long-term effects.

The above patient's case is a clear demonstration of the importance of educating and guiding teenage girls on how to self-examine their breast health. If there are unusual signs in the chest area such as pain, swelling, or detecting a strange mass when touching, it is necessary to immediately go to a specialist facility for examination. Because tumors at this age not only affect health but can also leave psychological impacts, affecting study and daily activities. When not detected in time, the tumor can grow large, compressing the surrounding breast tissue, increasing difficulties and risks during treatment.

In addition, not all breast tumors are easily detected during puberty without specialized diagnostic skills and modern equipment. Currently, the Breast Center, Vinmec Times City International General Hospital is applying advanced methods in diagnosing and treating breast diseases, especially tumors during puberty when the signs are often unclear. With the support of modern equipment such as ultrasound, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and mammography technology, the Breast Center is capable of detecting lesions that are difficult to detect with the naked eye. Doctors are highly skilled in analyzing and diagnosing breast lesions, especially in difficult cases, helping to ensure accurate and timely results. In addition, the biopsy procedure is also performed meticulously to accurately obtain tissue samples and quickly develop appropriate treatment regimens, helping patients feel secure and return to normal life without worrying about long-term complications.
