Intending to exchange and update knowledge to improve the quality of examination and treatment for orthopedic trauma doctors, Vinmec International General Hospital recently organized a scientific seminar on knee arthroscopy. The special guest is Dr. Philippe Jacob, an expert with extensive experience in the field of arthroscopy and sports medicine from Laennec-Creil Central Hospital, Republic of France.
Knee arthroscopy is a modern technique in the field of orthopedic trauma with the advantage of being minimally invasive, only requiring a small skin incision of about 0.5 cm, causing little damage to the tissues. Through that small incision, the orthopedic doctor will insert an optical endoscope into the knee joint to see all the structures inside the joint, detecting lesions that are sometimes difficult to detect with MRI or other modern diagnostic methods. From there, the doctor will give instructions and precise treatment to repair the injuries, helping the patient to quickly recover and return to work and play sports normally.
Knee arthroscopy can help treat diseases such as arthritis, osteoarthritis, knee joint foreign bodies, or injuries such as cruciate ligament rupture, meniscus tear, cartilage rupture due to sports injuries, household accidents, traffic accidents, etc.
With minimally invasive techniques, compared to open surgery, the endoscopic scar is smaller and more aesthetic, with a shorter recovery time. The patient also has less pain after surgery and can be discharged after 1-2 days and walks after 3-5 weeks. Thanks to that, physical therapy and knee rehabilitation are also convenient and quick. This is especially useful for professional athletes or those who love strenuous activities.
In Vietnam, besides sports players, the risk of knee injuries also occurs due to traffic accidents or accidents in daily life and work. Therefore, promoting and updating new techniques in knee arthroscopy is extremely necessary. That is also the reason why the Knee Arthroscopy workshop at Vinmec, with the participation of expert Philippe Jacob from Laennec-Creil Central Hospital in France, has attracted the attention of Vietnamese doctors. Many specialists from major hospitals such as Hospital 108, 103, Xanh Pon, Bach Mai, Thanh Nhan Hospital, E Hospital, Ministry of Transport Hospital, Ministry of Agriculture Hospital, Dong Da Hospital, etc. attended and exchanged experiences.
At the workshop, Dr. Phillipe Jacob not only gave specific and detailed new explanations of the indications for cruciate ligament reconstruction surgery but also updated new techniques in this field. The doctor also said that Vinmec is currently one of the few hospitals in Vietnam that has a synchronous equipment system to successfully treat and perform the most complicated knee surgeries.
Other topics such as "Anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction with allografts" - Dr. Tran Trung Dung - Hanoi Medical University Hospital; "Posterior cruciate ligament reconstruction" - Dr. Nguyen Quoc Dung, Hospital 108 or "Evaluation of the results of arthroscopic anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction using the pes and tendon with a fixed tendon suspension button in the femoral tunnel at Hospital 103" by Dr. Dang Hoang Anh, Hospital 103; "Evaluation of the results of arthroscopic anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction using the XO Button Hamstring tendon technique from 2010 to 2012 at Hospital 19/8, Ministry of Public Security" - MSc. Phi Manh Cong, Hospital 19/8; etc. were also discussed and exchanged enthusiastically at the workshop.
It can be said that, with practical cases, common problems in daily treatment are raised and experience is shared; the Knee Arthroscopy workshop organized by Vinmec International General Hospital is considered to be highly applicable and practical. This is also one of many professional activities that Vinmec continuously organizes to introduce and apply advanced world techniques to examination, treatment, and care in Vietnam.
It is known that Vinmec International General Hospital plans to cooperate with the Vietnam Orthopedic Association and international experts to open an Arthroscopy Training Center here; at the same time, it will organize many seminars on urgent topics, such as the recent seminar on the orthopedic industry in Vietnam.
