Side Effects of Betaloc Zok 50mg

Betaloc Zok 50mg contains the active ingredient Metoprolol succinate, is classified as a beta blocker. It is prescribed for the treatment of hypertension, chronic heart failure, arrhythmias, and angina attacks.

1. What is the effect of Betaloc Zok 50mg?

Betaloc Zok 50mg contains the active ingredient Metoprolol, a selective beta-1 receptor blocker that reduces or inhibits the sympathetic effects of catecholamines (released during physiological or psychological stress) on the heart. As a result, it reduces heart rate, cardiac output, contraction force, and blood pressure caused by increased catecholamine levels. Betaloc Zok 50mg is indicated in the following cases:

  • Treatment of hypertension: Reduces the risk of cardiovascular death, coronary artery disease, and organ damage.
  • Treatment of angina: Reduces the frequency of attacks and improves exercise tolerance.
  • Adjunctive treatment for heart failure: Used in combination with ACE inhibitors, diuretics, and digitalis in patients with stable chronic heart failure due to left ventricular systolic dysfunction.
  • Prevention after acute myocardial infarction: Helps prevent reinfarction.
  • Treatment of arrhythmias: Manages supraventricular tachycardia, reduces ventricular rate in atrial fibrillation, and controls ventricular ectopic beats.
  • Treatment of palpitations: Addresses palpitations in heart dysfunction.
  • Prevention of migraine headaches: Helps reduce the frequency and severity of migraines.

2. How to use Betaloc zok 50mg?

Betaloc Zok 50mg is primarily taken orally in the form of a tablet containing 50mg of the active ingredient. The dosage depends on the treatment goal:

  • Hypertension treatment: For mild to moderate cases, 50mg once daily, which can be increased to 100-200mg once daily or combined with other antihypertensive medications.
  • Angina pectoris treatment: 100-200mg once daily, which can be combined with other angina medications.
  • Clinically stable heart failure (Grade II): Initial dose during the first 2 weeks is 25mg once daily, which can be increased to 50mg once daily after 2 weeks until the long-term treatment dose reaches 200mg once daily.
  • Stable heart failure (Grade III-IV): The recommended starting dose is 12.5mg (half a 25mg Betaloc Zok tablet) once daily. For patients who tolerate higher doses, the dose can be doubled every 2 weeks until reaching the maximum dose of 200mg per day.
  • Arrhythmia treatment: 50mg 2-3 times daily, which can be increased to a total of 300mg per day divided into multiple doses.
  • Myocardial infarction treatment: Early intervention with 50mg every 6 hours, starting 15 minutes after injection and within a maximum of 48 hours (ideally within 12 hours) of the first chest pain symptoms. If the patient cannot tolerate it, a half-dose may be used.
  • Heart dysfunction with palpitations: 100mg once daily, which can be increased to 200mg if needed.
  • Hyperthyroidism treatment: 50mg 4 times daily. After stabilizing thyroid function, the dosage should be gradually reduced.
  • Migraine prevention: 50-100mg 2 times daily.
