Obimin is a multivitamin specifically used for pregnant women. There are various forms of Obimin on the market, each with different ingredients, leading to different effects of the supplement. This article discusses the effects of Obimin and whether it is suitable for non-pregnant women.
1. What is Obimin?
Obimin is a multivitamin supplement that provides essential nutrients for pregnant women, supporting comprehensive fetal development and helping to prevent maternal malnutrition. In Vietnam, three types of Obimin are commonly available: regular Obimin, Obimin Multivitamins and Obimin Plus.

Each box of Obimin Plus includes 3 blister packs and 10 capsules per blister.
2. What are the effects of Obimin?
The effect of Obimin is determined by the combined impact of all its ingredients. Properly supplementing vitamins and minerals during pregnancy offers numerous benefits, such as facilitating an easier pregnancy process, promoting comprehensive health and brain development for the fetus, preventing congenital defects, and improving the mother's health. It can also help reduce common pregnancy-related issues, such as premature birth, fetal growth retardation, and infections.
Obimin is often recommended in the following situations:
- Individuals who need to supplement vitamins and minerals, particularly pregnant women.
- To support the treatment of common pregnancy disorders, including nausea, vomiting, neuritis, anemia, cramps, numbness in the limbs, and Beriberi syndrome.
- To strengthen the immune resistance of the newborns.
Some specific cases where Obimin multivitamins may be needed include:
- Nutrient Deficiencies: Blood tests indicating vitamin and mineral deficiencies may require women to take multivitamin supplements. Deficiencies in nutrients like folate have been linked to congenital defects.
- Hyperemesis Gravidarum: Severe nausea and vomiting can result in weight loss and nutrient deficiencies.
- Dietary Restrictions: Vegetarians, vegans, and individuals with food intolerances or allergies might require vitamin and mineral supplements to prevent micronutrient deficiencies.
- Smoking: Although quitting smoking during pregnancy is crucial, pregnant women who do smoke have increased needs for specific nutrients like vitamin C and folate.
- Multiple Pregnancies: Pregnant women expecting more than one child have higher micronutrient requirements, necessitating regular nutritional supplementation to ensure optimal nutrition for both mother and fetus.
- Genetic Mutations (e.g., MTHFR): The methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) gene converts folate into a usable form for the body. Pregnant women with this gene mutation may need to supplement a specific form of folate to avoid complications.
Additionally, all pregnant women are advised to take prenatal vitamins and folic acid to fill nutritional gaps and prevent congenital defects, such as spina bifida.
3. Is Obimin Suitable for Non-Pregnant Women?
The safest and most effective way to obtain vitamins and minerals is through a balanced diet. Synthetic vitamins are generally less absorbed by the body than natural vitamins and may pose risks.
Current studies have not documented serious side effects from multivitamins, but there is also no evidence indicating that they provide benefits for individuals in good health.
Therefore, whether or not to use Obimin depends on individual circumstances. To determine the appropriate usage and dosage, consulting a healthcare professional is recommended.
