Miraculous recovery by 93-year-old grandma 4 months after getting admitted in critical condition

At the age of 93, Grandma Nguyen Thi Tam (born in 1928, in Thai Nguyen City) was successfully treated by doctors of the Cardiology Center at Vinmec Times City International Hospital. Even though getting hospitalized in a very critical condition, now, 4 months later, she is in good health condition.

Being transferred from Thai Nguyen to Vinmec Times City Hospital in an emergency condition, Grandma Tam was in a state of exhaustion. She had many serious conditions, especially complex coronary artery damage (heavy damage to three coronary arteries and nearly complete occlusion of the anterior interventricular branch). She also experienced severe shortness of breath, low blood pressure, and rapid heart rate.

As soon as the patient was hospitalized, she was promptly given an emergency intervention by Dr. Pham Thanh Van - Head of the Cardiovascular Intervention Unit, and his team. She then continued to be treated with intensive resuscitation methods and medication for pneumonia. Later when her heart failure condition improved, the doctors continued further intervention by placing 2 coronary stents into her coronary arteries with the support of an Intravascular UltraSound (IVUS) machine.

Under intensive care and treatment, her condition stabilized, with no chest pain, pneumonia, or need for vasopressor drugs. She also received physical therapy to improve her physical condition. Only 1 month later, the results of re-examination and ultrasound all show good results, and she was able to return to her normal activities.

The patient's family thanked the team of doctors and nurses at the Cardiovascular Center of Vinmec Times City International Hospital for their efforts to save and bring their grandma back from death.

“In this letter, I would like to express my deepest gratitude to the Board of Directors, medical staff, nurses, and hospital staff, and especially those at the Cardiology Department who have saved my mother from that critical condition with their hearts, enthusiasm, and medical ethics, so she could return to a normal life.

My mother, 93 years old, was hospitalized at Vinmec in very bad health due to a heart attack. Before that, the prognosis had been unpromising, and she might have not survived. But even if it was just a small glimmer of hope, we always hope that the doctors would find a way to save my mother's life.

During her 13 days of receiving treatment, the doctors were not only the healers but also those who gave my mother more hope and courage to carry on through the kindness and care similar to that of a family member. Now, seeing that my mother's health has improved, I really appreciate the efforts of the hospital's doctors and staff.

I would like to express my sincere gratitude to PhD., Dr. Do Doan Loi - Director of Cardiology Center, Dr. Pham Thanh Van, nurse Nguyen Thanh Phu, and the staff who have always been considerate and attentive to their patients.

Wishing you and your families a lot of health and happiness. With medical ethics, please continue to save many lives so that there will be many "Miracle Resurrections" like what the doctors have done for my family.”
