Patients at Vinmec Times City International Hospital have just had a ventricular-assisted artificial heart (HVAD) implanted successfully, extending their quality of life by 5-7 years. Vinmec has steadily strengthened its position in Vietnam's cardiovascular treatment industry as one of the first two domestic hospitals to grasp this challenging method.
Artificial heart implant with ventricular assistance HVAD
Transplantation of an artificial heart with ventricular assistance A blood-pumping device, commonly referred to as a mechanical heart, is implanted into the left heart chamber using the open-heart surgery technique known as HVAD. This device's job is to draw blood from the left heart chamber and then pump it into the arteries. HVAD will assist a failing heart that is in the final stages of failing and is no longer responding to other medical therapies by bringing blood to the body to provide oxygen and aid in the recovery of blood circulation. Patients with end-stage heart failure can resume their regular activities and employment after that.
The HVAD ventricular assist device was initially solely employed as a treatment during the heart transplantation process' bridging stage. However, as technology has advanced, the upgraded HVAD has become increasingly portable, the patient can easily carry the battery in a belt or bag, and the machine's lifespan is extending, making it suitable for use as a targeted therapy. Patients' lives are extended by the HVAD ventricular-assisted artificial heart transplant by more than 5-7 years.
Only 29 cases nationwide have received a heart transplant due to the shortage of donated organs; therefore, for the thousands of patients who are waiting for a heart transplant and are at risk of passing away over time, the HVAD ventricular-assisted artificial heart transplant is a particularly significant procedure that gives many people hope.
Ms. Vi Thi Tan, who was born in Thanh Hoa in 1985, became the first recipient of a successful HVAD left ventricular aided mechanical heart transplant at Vinmec. In addition to having end-stage heart failure, an enlarged myocardium, and a cerebrovascular accident, the patient has had heart disease for ten years. Ms. Tan got medical care in accordance with the recommended treatment plan, but because it was ineffective, the patient's health deteriorated.
Vinmec International General Hospital performed an urgent procedure and implanted an artificial heart to support the left ventricle HVAD in order to provide prompt care. Patient Vi Thi Tan noted favorable indicators following the five-hour procedure, indicating that the mechanical heart was functioning well. The patient made a full recovery after a month and was allowed to leave the hospital. In order to maximize treatment and raise quality of life, he was also told to take care of his health and use the HVAD machine.
The ability to implant HVAD ventricular assist devices has not been widely distributed among hospitals in Vietnam. Vinmec can now access the most up-to-date technologies available worldwide in the field of artificial hearts, better serving the needs of heart failure patients both domestically and internationally who require treatment with this technique, according to Prof. Dr. Bui Duc Phu, a specialist in cardiac surgery and "commander in general" of the first HVAD transplant at Vinmec shared.
Vinmec is a pioneer in the field of mechanical heart transplantation with ventricular assistance.
Vinmec World General Hospital has focused on being a leading cardiovascular unit of international level in Southeast Asia since it began operations in 2012. Vinmec has consistently mastered various cutting-edge cardiovascular and surgical therapies with a team of outstanding specialists, including: Percutaneous aortic valve replacement (TAVI), stenting Graft, and implant resynchronization machine. Laparoscopic heart surgery, cardiac surgery (CRT), defibrillator insertion, painless open heart surgery using ultrasound-guided vertebral plane anesthetic (ESP), and more.
Particularly, Vinmec Central Park joined the cardiovascular map of the globe by being the first hospital in Vietnam to execute 500 open-heart procedures and the first independent TAVI intervention facility in November 2017. In June 2018, anesthesia in the vertebral plane (ESP) was painless.
Vinmec has confirmed the mark of a world-class cardiology center, fully satisfying the needs of cardiovascular health care. Vinmec has been successful with the same cutting-edge cardiovascular techniques of major cardiovascular centers in the globe. so that Vietnamese people can safely obtain treatment at home without having to travel overseas, using the most cutting-edge and efficient techniques.
About 1.6 million people in Vietnam receive a new heart failure diagnosis each year, according to statistics provided by the Vietnam Heart Association. In Vietnam, heart failure has an extremely high mortality rate; five years after diagnosis, 50% of patients pass away. The ventricular-assisted artificial heart transplant technique used in Vietnam will help save the lives of patients with heart failure given the fact that there are currently relatively few heart transplants carried out due to a lack of donated organs from brain dead donors. increasing the patient's quality of life in patients with end-stage cardiac disease.
