Brexin contains the active ingredient piroxicam. This is the non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drug (NSAID) pain reliever. It is indicated for reduce the symptoms in musculoskeletal disorders such as osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and ankylosing spondylitis.
1. When should you not use the Brexin?
The medication should only be used when prescribed; do not increase the dosage or duration of use on your own. Some patients should avoid using Brexin®:
- Patients with active gastrointestinal ulcers or bleeding.
- Patients with progressive kidney failure.
- Pregnant women (especially in the third trimester).
- Breastfeeding women.
- Patients with a history of allergic reactions to piroxicam or other nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs).
- Patients who are currently bleeding.
- Patients using anticoagulant medications.
- Patients at high cardiovascular risk or those who have recently undergone coronary artery bypass surgery.
- Severe heart failure.
2. How to use and dosage of Brexin
The lowest effective dose should be used for the shortest duration possible. The effectiveness and tolerance of the medication should be assessed after about 2 weeks. Do not continue using the medication without consulting your doctor.
The usual dosage is 10–20 mg/day, taken after meals. The maximum dose is 20 mg/day.
3. Side effects of Brexin®
It can cause and worsen some severe diseases.
In addition, the medication may cause allergic reactions and anaphylaxis, as well as other side effects such as edema, headache, dizziness, etc. If you experience any unusual symptoms, you should immediately consult your doctor.
