Orgasm is recognized as the peak of sexual satisfaction, characterized by an intense physical and sensory experience. However, the process of orgasm is complex and varies between men and women. So, how long does a woman's orgasm typically last?
1. What is orgasm?
Orgasm can be defined in many different ways based on many different criteria. Medical experts use physical changes as the basic criteria for definition, while psychiatrists rely on emotional and reflex changes. There is no single, universally accepted definition of orgasm.
Sex researchers define orgasm based on models of sexual response. Although the orgasm process varies greatly between individuals, it is still possible to build a basic process.
The Master and Johnson four-phase model was created to describe the orgasm process during lovemaking, applicable to all forms of sexual response, not just vaginal intercourse.
- Excitement
- Plateau
- Orgasm
- Recession
2. How long does a woman's orgasm last?
Based on the Master and Johnson four-phase model, female orgasm is different from that of men, and therefore the duration of female orgasm is much longer than that of men (the average male orgasm is only 3 seconds):
- Excitement: When a woman is physically or mentally stimulated, the blood vessels in the genital area dilate, more blood flows, vaginal fluid is secreted, and the vagina becomes moist and wide. Heart rate, breathing rate, blood pressure increase;
- Plateau: When the blood flow to the vagina reaches its maximum limit, it becomes firmer. Breasts can increase in size by up to 25%, the clitoris retracts into the pubic bone and seems to disappear;
- Orgasm: The genital muscles contract rhythmically every 0.8 seconds. Orgasms in women often last longer than men, with an average orgasm lasting from 13 to 51 seconds. And unlike men, most women do not have a recovery period, so they can continue to orgasm if stimulated again;
- Recession: The body gradually returns to normal, heart rate and breathing slow down.
3. How to prolong orgasm in women?
If you feel that you have not achieved enough or are not satisfied with the orgasm time, there are several ways to prolong orgasm, the most common of which is to temporarily stop stimulation when you are close to orgasm. Repeating this method two to three times will help prolong orgasm in 65% of women.
