Is it normal to experience bleeding while using vaginal suppositories?

Hello Doctor,

I am experiencing vaginal itching and decided to purchase a medication. After using the suppositories for a few days, I noticed a brown discharge followed by some bloody discharge. I am only a few days away from my menstrual period. Could you please let me know if it's normal to experience bleeding while using vaginal suppositories? Is the bleeding likely related to my upcoming period, or could it be a result of improper use of the medication? Should I continue using the other medications? I appreciate your guidance on this matter. Thank you, Doctor.

Hello,

Regarding your question, "Is it normal to experience bleeding while using vaginal suppositories?" the doctor would like to provide the following information:

Bleeding while using vaginal suppositories may be the start of your menstrual period, or it might indicate that your vagina or cervix is inflamed and sensitive, making it more likely to bleed during medication insertion.

It is advisable to wait until your period is over and then visit a specialized medical facility for an examination. The doctor will assess your vagina for any inflammation, take a sample of vaginal fluid for testing to determine the cause, and prescribe appropriate medication.

If you have further questions about bleeding while using vaginal suppositories, feel free to visit a hospital in the Vinmec Health System for further examination and consultation. Thank you for trusting us with your questions. Wishing you good health.

Best regards!
