Inquiry:
Hello Doctor,
I was six weeks pregnant when I had a miscarriage. One week after my miscarriage, I had sexual intercourse again. As such, I would like to know if it is too soon to have sex one week after a miscarriage and would there be any negative impacts? Additionally, if I take birth control pills daily, will it affect my ability to conceive in the future? I would appreciate your advice and consultation. Thank you very much!

Response:
Greetings!
Firstly, I would like to express my deepest condolences for your loss. A miscarriage can have a significant emotional and physical impact on a woman’s health. Hence, you should take some time to rest, replenish your energy, and refrain from sexual intercourse until all vaginal bleeding has ceased.
Engaging in sexual intercourse too soon after a miscarriage can increase the likelihood of acquiring an infection, which could potentially increase the risk of infertility and miscarriage in future pregnancies. Additionally, misuse of daily birth control pills could affect your future pregnancies.
I hope this response helps you better understand “whether it is too soon to resume sexual activity one week after a miscarriage and what the potential effects may be”. If you require further consultation, you should visit a hospital within the Vinmec Healthcare System, where you can receive further guidance on birth control usage and how to minimize risk factors that could affect future pregnancies.Thank you for trusting and sending your question to Vinmec.
Wishing you good health
