Nguyen Le Nhat Lam (8 years old, Duong Minh Chau district, Tay Ninh) has made a remarkable recovery after nearly a year of being treated four times with stem cell transplantation to treat cerebral palsy sequelae. Many people were astonished by the family images Nhat Lam sent back to Vinmec in the early days of July. Nhat Lam, the baby, was able to stand on her own for a short time. The girl's expressive facial expressions and ability to make motions are a far cry from the photos taken a year earlier, when she was still deformed and underweight due to starvation.
Nhat Lam has undergone the fourth and last round of stem cell transplantation at Vinmec International General Hospital, which took place in April 2015. "The kid has undergone many favorable changes. Not in bed, the baby can sit to eat and drink milk using a straw, while the mother feeds each spoon. Instead of gurgling at mealtimes, the baby can now speak the word "eat." He can also handle a variety of objects in his left hand, despite the fact that his right hand is weaker. The baby, in particular, no longer drools or has contractions, which are common in cerebral palsy babies. After a year of transplantation, the infant has gained 12 kilograms and now weighs 24 kg. Nhat Lam is now learning to walk, although she can only take 1-2 steps due to her legs' inability to bend her knees. The family is continuing to work with Vinmec to help the child practice rehabilitation so that he can regain his ability to walk and stand better.” Le Thi My Ngoc, the baby's mother, told the Vinmec doctors.
Nhat Lam developed a sudden high fever, seizures, and cerebral palsy about two years ago, when he was only a few days into grade 1. The limbs are almost paralyzed, therefore eating and drinking must be pumped straight into the stomach. The baby's condition deteriorated, his limbs atrophied, and he needed anti-epileptic medicines and muscle relaxants to sleep on a regular basis. Constant contractions, twitching limbs, and inability to regulate himself in all activities plague the newborn. Because eating was difficult, the baby became malnourished over time, weighing only 12 kilograms. Nhat Lam's mother had to take time off work to care for her children at all hours of the day and night. The family sought therapy for the baby in a number of locations, but nothing had worked yet.
Mr. Nguyen Cong Thu - Nhat Lam's father remarked one month after the initial transplant at Vinmec: "The infant has had a positive change, eating and drinking is no more choking, eating faster and more." I am also able to sleep without the need of medicines. The stiffness of the body gradually lessened as a result. The baby gained 3 kg after 3 months of transplantation. Despite being thousands of miles away from Hanoi, the family was determined to continue therapy for the kid until the fourth transplant. Nhat Lam's health is now improving thanks to Thu and his wife. It was a fantastic experience for their family.
Prof. - Dr. Nguyen Thanh Liem, General Director of Vinmec, spoke of the favorable benefits of stem cell treatment research for children with cerebral palsy, "My grandson Nguyen Le Nhat Lam is one of many cerebral palsy patients who are suffering from cerebral palsy." The stem cell therapy treatment at Vinmec has had a favorable response. Vinmec has been researching and applying this therapy in the treatment of a range of complicated disorders, including cerebral palsy, autism, stroke, and spinal disease, in collaboration with numerous institutions throughout the world. The outcomes were really encouraging."
