Mr. Nguyen Van Hung, 46, of Son Tra district, Da Nang, had a nearly 2 cm-long large brain artery aneurysm that was fully excised three months following brain vascular repair. Mr. Hung is not only "healing" the illness, but his right eye's vision is also gradually improving. One of the most challenging cerebral vascular procedures ever documented in Vietnam is this one.
After receiving treatment for three months, Mr. Hung underwent a brain angiography DSA at Vinmec Danang International General Hospital at the end of October 2019. He was pleased with the results, which revealed that the cerebral vascular system was in good circulation. Particularly, a massive internal carotid aneurysm on the right was totally excised, as never before.
This outcome is consistent with his now-completely recovered health. He felt perfectly healthy, had no neurological-vascular complications, and was able to resume his regular job. Mr. Hung is now able to read books and watch TV properly since his right eye, which was previously invisible, is progressively improving.
The person who immediately intervened on behalf of Mr. Hung, Professor Dr. Ton That Tri Dung, Head of Medical Examination - Internal Medicine Department of Vinmec Da Nang Hospital, wrote: "The aneurysm not only threatens to burst at any time, but also presses on it. Blindness is caused by eye contact. Since the compression is reduced once the aneurysm is removed, vision can then be restored.
At the end of 2018, Nguyen Van Hung received a diagnosis of a recurrent large brain aneurysm. He visited numerous renowned hospitals around the nation but received no treatment. After over a year of having a large aneurysm, the patient still has a significant danger of dying if the aneurysm bursts.
When he came to Vinmec Danang Hospital in July 2019, Dr. Dr. promptly acted on behalf of the patient.
The enormous internal carotid aneurysm (26 x 18 mm, neck width 7.8 mm) has ruptured once, making this one of the most challenging vascular procedures ever. When the aneurysm ruptured, the first coil implantation was successful in hemostasis. However, because of the extremely high blood pressure, which can cause the coil to collapse and form a new aneurysm, this approach is unable to treat the aneurysm. If the coil ruptures again, there is a 100% chance that the patient will die. both before and after the surgery. Mr. Hung visited numerous hospitals for this reason, but he did not obtain adequate care.
As a leading expert in Vietnam on cerebral vascular intervention, Dr. Ton That Tri Dung decided to treat with the optimal method. “The aneurysm is too large, the location of the aneurysm does not allow clipping surgery, the open cranial surgery method has many risks and complications. Therefore, Vinmec Da Nang Hospital has chosen the most superior method for this case, which is imaging and plugging the brain aneurysm with a stent that incorporates a coil," said Dr. Dung.
Endovascular intervention method is a minimally invasive method, the patient does not need to open the skull...so the risks and complications are limited. However, because of the complexity of this, skilled experts are required to assemble the crew and cutting-edge facilities before deployment. Vinmec Danang Hospital is one of the few hospitals now using this method successfully in the central region.
