If you have shingles, can you still get chickenpox? How to prevent infection?

Ask
Hello doctor! I am 10 weeks pregnant and my oldest baby has chickenpox. I have never had chickenpox and missed the plan so I have not been vaccinated against chickenpox. Currently, I only keep my distance from the baby and wear a mask but still live in the same house. Before that, my baby had blisters and then I knew it. The doctor asked me if I have shingles, will I have chickenpox? And is the chance of getting chickenpox from my baby high?

Hello! Shingles is a disease caused by the Varicella-Zoster virus. This is an infectious disease. You should send your questions to the infectious disease department so that the specialist doctors will help answer your questions and advise on the best prevention for both mother and baby.
Thank you for sending your question to Vinmec Health System. Best regards!
