Uses and How to Use Stadeltine

Stadeltine is an anti-allergy drug used to treat hypersensitivity.  Stadeltine 5 mg contains levocetirizine dihydrochloride 5 mg, in film-coated tablets.

1. What is Stadeltine?

Stadeltine is classified as an antihistamine and anti-allergy drug.  It is used to reduce eye and nose symptoms of allergic rhinitis and to reduce symptoms of chronic urticaria. It is used in children aged  of 6 and older and adults.

2. How to use and dosage of Stadeltine

How to use: Oral. Use Stadeltine exactly as directed by your doctor. It can be taken on an empty or full stomach, with or without food.
Dosage: Take 5 mg of Stadeltine once daily (preferably in the evening). For people with severe kidney failure, the drug should be taken every 2–3 days. Children aged  of 6 years and older should take the same dose as adults. The safety and effectiveness of the drug have not been established in children under 6 years of age.
Overdose: In case of emergency or overdose, the patient should call an ambulance or go to the nearest hospital immediately. In addition, the patient should inform the doctor about the drugs he or she is using. The main symptoms of overdose are: confusion, dizziness, diarrhea, fatigue, discomfort, pain, itching, dilated pupils, restlessness, drowsiness, lethargy, rapid heartbeat, tremors, and urinary retention (occurring after taking at least five times the recommended daily dose).
Missed dose: If a dose of Stadeltine is missed, the patient should take it as soon as possible. If it is close to the next dose, the patient can skip the missed dose and take the next dose at the scheduled time.

3. Side effects when using Stadeltine:

Stadeltine can cause side effects such as fatigue, drowsiness, weakness, aggression, agitation, hypersensitivity, anaphylactic reaction, convulsions, astigmatism, difficulty breathing, abdominal pain, dry mouth, nausea, palpitations, hepatitis, angioneurotic edema, itching, fixed drug eruption, urticaria, rash, muscle pain, diarrhea, and edema.

4. Caution when using Stadeltine

Before using Stadeltine, inform your doctor if:

  • You are allergic to any of the drug's ingredients;
  • You are pregnant or breastfeeding;
  • You have allergies to chemicals, foods, or dyes;
  • You have health conditions such as severe kidney failure, hives, anaphylaxis, end-stage renal disease requiring hemodialysis, lactase deficiency, galactose intolerance, or glucose-galactose malabsorption.

Some things to keep in mind when using Stadeltine:
You should not drive or operate machinery after taking the drug due to possible drowsiness.
Use caution in patients with epilepsy or those at risk of seizures.
There are insufficient studies to determine the risks of using the drug during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Consult your doctor to weigh the benefits and risks before taking drug. Use only drug when absolutely necessary or when the benefits outweigh the risks.

5. Stadeltine drug interactions

Stadeltine can alter the effectiveness of other drugs you are taking or increase side effects. Therefore, to avoid the risk of drug interactions, inform your doctor about all medications you are taking.  To ensure safety, do not arbitrarily use, stop, or change the dosage or timing of any medication without your doctor's permission.

Some drugs that may interact with Stadeltine include: theophylline, ritonavir, and central nervous system depressants.
In addition, you should not drink alcohol or central nervous system depressants while taking this drug, as it can reduce alertness and weaken the central nervous system.  Also, be careful when taking Stadeltine with food.

Patients should take Stadeltine exactly as directed by their doctor; do not take more or less than the prescribed dose.  Similarly, patients should not stop taking the medication without their doctor's permission to ensure the highest treatment effectiveness.
