Should people with high blood pressure drink lemon or orange juice?

Question

Hello doctor,

I have high blood pressure. So can you tell me if people with high blood pressure should drink lemon or orange juice? Because I've heard some people say yes, and others say no.
Could you please advise me? Thank you.

Answered by Specialist Doctor II Nguyen Quoc Viet - Department of Examination & Internal Medicine, Vinmec Da Nang International General Hospital.

Hello,

With the question "Should people with high blood pressure drink lemon or orange juice?", the doctor would like to answer as follows:

Blood pressure is considered high when the maximum blood pressure is greater than 140 mmHg or/and the minimum blood pressure is greater than 90 mmHg. So, high blood pressure can
be due to an increase in either the maximum or minimum blood pressure, or both

Blood pressure is a value that always changes depending on many factors such as food, drink, mental state, physical condition, activity or rest,... Currently, many scientific studies have proven that lemon juice or orange juice contains a fair amount of potassium, vitamin C, riboflavin, magnesium and other phytonutrients that are good for people with high blood pressure.

So, you can use lemon juice, orange juice. However, you should not use it excessively, especially for people with digestive problems such as stomach ulcers...

If you still have questions about high blood pressure, you can go to a hospital in the Vinmec Health System for further examination and consultation. Thank you for your trust and sending questions to Vinmec. Wish you good health.

Sincerely!
