Training Format: Theoretical instruction combined with hands-on practice at the Neonatal Inpatient Department, Royal Hospital for Women, Australia.

Training Content:

  • Staff-to-Patient Ratios for Neonatal Care:
    • 1:1 for critically ill neonates.
    • 2:1 for neonates requiring respiratory support via nCPAP, high-flow oxygen, or ventilators but are stable.
    • 3:1 or 4:1 for neonates with no need for respiratory support.
    • 5:1 for other cases (stable neonates with illnesses but able to room in  with their mothers).
  • Caring for child development: positioning the neonate, avoiding exposure to light and noise, and minimizing physical disturbances.
  • Surfactant replacement therapy for premature neonates with respiratory distress:
  • Monitoring gas exchange through blood gases.
  • Strategies for weaning off respiratory support.
  • Monitoring critical signs
  • Infection Control Strategies: Hand hygiene, surface cleaning, disinfection of medical equipment.
