Otipax

The article was written by Pharmacist Nguyen Thu Giang - Pharmacy Department - Vinmec Times City International General Hospital.

Otipax is a common ear drop containing Phenazone, which has analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects, and lidocaine hydrochloride, which provides an anesthetic effect.

Indication drug: Treatment of local pain symptoms due to otitis media with intact tympanic membrane: Acute otitis media in the congestive phase, viral otitis media with viral bullae, ear barotrauma in children over 6 months of age and adults.

Do not use the drug in cases of: Perforated eardrum, hypersensitivity to drug ingredients.

Unwanted effects are rare if the eardrum is not perforated. May experience irritation or congestion of the ear canal.

Dosage and usage: To prevent the ear from contact with a cold solution, warm the bottle in the palm of hand before use. Drop 4 drops into the painful ear 2 - 3 times/day. Use for no more than 10 days. After this period, the effectiveness of the treatment should be re-evaluated. If the symptoms do not improve, the patient should go back for a check-up so that the doctor can re-evaluate the initial diagnosis. Do not arbitrarily adjust the dosage or prolong the duration of use without the advice of an ENT specialist.

For pregnant women: The effectiveness of the drug during pregnancy cannot be predicted because systemic exposure to phenazone and lidocaine is insignificant, the manufacturer still allows the use of Otipax during pregnancy.

For lactating women: Normally, phenazone and lidocaine are not excreted in breast milk, so Otipax can still be used during breastfeeding.

Product storage: At room temperature (maximum temperature 30°C), do not store the medicine in a humid place, with direct light and keep it out of reach of children.

Tighten the cap after use. The medicine is in liquid form so it is easy to deteriorate and be damaged if not stored carefully.
