Alaxan is a drug formulated in tablet form containing the following ingredients: Paracetamol at a dose of 325mg, Ibuprofen (a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug) at a dose of 200mg.
1. Uses of Alaxan
The drug has pain-relieving effects and is indicated in cases of mild to moderate pain:
- Neck pain, shoulder pain, back pain, tension in the arms or legs, stiff neck, arthritis, rheumatism, bursitis, sprains, tendonitis.
- Headache, menstrual cramps, toothache, pain after tooth extraction, and minor surgery.
2. Instruction for using Alaxan for adults and children
The drug is used orally and according to the following dosage instructions:
- Adults and children ≥12 years old: Take 1 tablet every 6 hours when pain occurs or as directed by your doctor.
- Duration of use: Do not use for more than 10 days without the advice of a doctor or pharmacist.
3. Side effects of Alaxan
The drug has few side effects when used at the recommended dose and duration as described in section 2.
Serious side effects that may occur: Allergy, anaphylactic shock.
Other side effects that may occur related to the drug components are as follows:
Ibuprofen:
- Fever, fatigue, bloating, nausea, vomiting, headache, dizziness, restlessness, itching, rash.
- Rhinitis, abdominal pain, peptic ulcer, gastrointestinal bleeding, drowsiness, insomnia, tinnitus; visual disturbances, hearing loss; prolonged bleeding time.
- Rarely: Edema, hair loss, depression, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis, depression, aseptic meningitis, acute renal failure, Risk of cardiovascular thrombosis..
Paracetamol: Skin rash, nausea, vomiting, blood dyscrasia, anemia, nephrotoxicity with long-term abuse.
4. Precautions when using Alaxan
4.1 Do not use the drug for the following subjects
- Hypersensitivity to any component of the drug.
- History of bronchospasm, angioedema, rhinitis, urticaria, peptic ulcer associated with acetylsalicylic acid or other NSAIDs.
- Liver failure, kidney failure, severe heart failure.
- Last 3 months of pregnancy.
- Glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency.
4.2 Caution in the following subjects
Systemic lupus erythematosus.
- Ulcerative colitis, Crohn's disease.
- Cardiovascular disease, cerebrovascular disease.
- When used with drugs that increase the risk of gastrointestinal toxicity or bleeding such as: warfarin, corticosteroids, antiplatelet drugs...
- Pregnant women in the first 6 months of pregnancy.
- Elderly: Use the lowest effective dose for the shortest possible time. Adverse effects of the drug should be monitored regularly.
- Patients with impaired liver and kidney function: Adverse effects will be minimized when using the lowest effective dose.
- Do not self-medicate with other drugs containing paracetamol.
- Drugs containing lactose: Not for use in patients with galactose intolerance, total lactase deficiency, or glucose-galactose malabsorption.
