How long after taking Progynova to menstruate?

Progynova is utilized in hormone replacement therapy for the treatment of menstrual irregularities and the prevention of postmenopausal osteoporosis. Therefore, the questions arise: How long after commencing Progynova treatment does menstruation occur? Does the use of Progynova induce ovulation? And is pregnancy possible while taking Progynova?

1. How long after taking Progynova to menstruate?

The main component of Progynova is Estradiol valerate, a precursor of the naturally occurring 17β-estradiol in the human body. Some tablets also contain norgestrel, a progestogen.

With its specific composition and regular usage regimen, Progynova involves using estrogen alone for 11 days and a combination of estrogen and progesterone for 10 days, followed by a 7-day break from taking the medication. You will experience a normal menstrual cycle in this case, provided your uterus is intact.

2. Does the use of Progynova induce ovulation?

While ovulation is typically not inhibited during the administration of Progynova, the production of endogenous hormones is substantially influenced. Progynova may be prescribed for younger women to induce and regulate menstrual cycles. Furthermore, it is employed in the management of dysfunctional uterine bleeding in the perimenopausal period.

3. Can I get pregnant by taking Progynova?

Progynova is contraindicated in pregnant women. In the event of pregnancy occurring during Progynova use, the medication should be discontinued immediately. Progynova is not indicated for contraception.

5. Progynova usage

For patients who have had a hysterectomy, the drug can be taken at any time.

If the patient still has an intact uterus and is still menstruating, treatment with a combination of Progynova and progesterone should begin within the first 5 days of the menstrual cycle.

Patients with amenorrhea or irregular menstrual cycles and after menopause can initiate combination therapy at any time, but the possibility of pregnancy must be excluded during treatment.

Women changing from another HRT regimen should use the full therapeutic dose before starting Progynova.

Each pack of Progynova contains 28 tablets for 28 days of treatment. Treatment is continuous, meaning that after you finish one pack, you should start the next pack immediately without any break.

Progynova should be swallowed whole with a little water. The medicine should be taken at a fixed time every day.

In case of a missed dose, you should take the missed tablet as soon as possible. If you have missed the dose by more than 24 hours, do not take the missed tablet. If you miss several tablets, irregular bleeding may occur.
