Uses of Roswera

Roswera belongs to the group of cardiovascular drugs and is produced in the form of film-coated tablets. The main ingredient is rosuvastatin, which is indicated for the treatment of primary hypercholesterolemia, dyslipidemia, and homozygous hypercholesterolemia. However, when using Roswera in treatments, some unwanted side effects may occur, such as headache, dizziness, nausea, constipation, etc. Therefore, patients should carefully read information about the medicine before using it.

1. Mechanism of action of Roswera

Roswera contains rosuvastatin, a selective and competitive inhibitor of the enzyme HMG-CoA reductase. This enzyme catalyzes the conversion of 3 hydroxy 3 methylglutaryl coenzyme A into mevalonate, a precursor of cholesterol. This compound's main site of action is the liver, the target organ that helps reduce cholesterol in the body.

In addition, this compound also increases the number of LDL receptors on the liver's cell surface, increases LDL absorption and catabolism, and quite effectively inhibits the synthesis of VLDL in the liver.

2. Indications and contraindications of Roswera

What is the effect of Roswera? Roswera is indicated in the treatment of primary hypercholesterolemia, including heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia or type IIb dyslipidemia. In addition, Roswera can be used to treat homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia.

3. Dosage and how to use Roswera

Rowera is taken orally with a recommended starting dose of 5 to 10 mg once daily. If necessary, the dose can be adjusted every 4 weeks and follow the doctor's instructions.  Roswera 40 mg is used when severe hypercholesterolemia is at high risk of cardiovascular disease, and the treatment goal is not achieved at the dose of 20 mg. These patients must be monitored regularly.

Patients with a liver disease history should be cautious when using Roswera because the patient may have rhabdomyolysis complications such as renal failure, hypothyroidism, and a history of muscle toxicity due to HMG CoA inhibitors. In cases of alcoholism, some conditions cause increased drug concentrations in the blood.

The drug should not be used in cases of infection or hypotension, major surgery, trauma, severe electrolyte, endocrine, and metabolic disorders.

Note: The recommended treatment dose above is for reference only. Therefore, patients need to follow the doctor's instructions before using Roswera.

4. Handling missed doses and overdoses of Roswera

If a dose of Roswera is missed, use it as soon as you remember. However, if the time between the missed dose and the next dose is too close, skip the missed dose. Patients should not double the dose of Roswera, as this may cause an overdose. To avoid missing a dose of Roswera, patients can set an alarm or ask someone to remind them.

In case of accidentally using an overdose of Roswera compared to the prescribed dose and some unwanted signs appear, family members need to take the patient to the emergency room immediately.

5. Side effects when using Roswera

Roswera can cause some unwanted side effects during treatment. However, these side effects can occur at different levels, from mild to severe.

Some common side effects caused by Roswera include nausea and vomiting, headache, muscle pain, etc. These side effects may occur at the beginning of treatment or after increasing the dose of Roswera. Usually, side effects caused by Roswera may be transient or decrease over time.

However, in some cases, Roswera can cause serious, unwanted side effects with rare reactions. These reactions can appear within a few minutes of using Roswera or longer within a few days. When serious side effects appear, such as rash, hives, musculoskeletal disorders, connective tissue and bone, muscle wasting, weakness, increased transaminases, etc, patients should stop using Roswera and go to a medical facility for immediate medical intervention.

Some notes when using Roswera:

  • Pregnant and lactating women should be cautious when using Roswera. Patients need to be advised on using Roswera by a doctor and carefully analyze the benefits and risks before using the drug.
  • Roswera can change the ability to function and increase the effects of side effects. Therefore, to avoid drug interactions, patients should provide their doctor with a list of previously used medications, including prescription and non-prescription drugs, herbs, etc.
  • The drug affects the user's alertness. Therefore, if the patient regularly has to operate machinery or drive a vehicle that requires high concentration, they should be careful when using Roswera.
  • Be cautious when using Roswera for people with liver dysfunction.

Above is important information about Roswera. Patients should read the instructions carefully and take the dosage prescribed by the doctor to get the best results.
