1. What is Almetamin?
Almetamin is a product of Korea United Pharm INT'L Joint Stock Company. One Almetamin tablet contains 2 ingredients:
- Betamethasone: 0.25mg
- Dexchlorpheniramine: 2mg

2. Contraindications to using Almetamin
Daehwa Almetamin is contraindicated in the following cases:
- Patients who are sensitive to any ingredient of the drug or drugs with similar structures.
- Patients with systemic fungal infections, newborns and premature infants, and patients taking MAOIs.
- People with diabetes, mental illness, gastric and duodenal ulcers in bacterial and viral infections.
- Patients with glaucoma.
- Patients with diseases that obstruct the lower urinary tract, such as prostate enlargement.
- Do not receive smallpox vaccination during treatment, because vaccination of patients receiving steroid hormones may lead to mental disorders and failure of the antigen-antibody reaction.
3. Dosage - Ways to use Almetamin
Route: Daehwa Almetamin is taken orally.
Dosage:
- Adults & children > 15 years old: 1-2 tablets x 3-4 times/day.
- Children 8-14 years old: start with 1/2-1 tablet x 3-4 times/day,
- Children 3-7 years old: start with 1/4-1/2 tablet x 2-3 times/day. Then use the lowest effective maintenance dose.
If symptoms have improved, the patient can gradually reduce the dose to the minimum maintenance dose and then stop taking the drug. The dose can be increased according to the doctor's instructions.
Overdosage reactions with conventional antihistamines (sedatives) may range from central nervous system depression (sedation, apnea, decreased alertness, cardiovascular collapse) to stimulation (insomnia, hallucinations, tremor, convulsions), and even death.
Other signs and symptoms include dizziness, tinnitus, ataxia, diplopia, and hypotension.
In children, stimulation predominates, as do atropine-like signs and symptoms (dry mouth, mydriasis, flushing, fever, and gastrointestinal symptoms). Hallucinations, incoordination, and grand mal seizures may occur.
In adults, a cycle consisting of depression with drowsiness and coma, followed by an excited phase leading to convulsions, followed by depression, may occur.
4. Side effects when using Almetamin
When using Daehwa Almetamin, you may experience unwanted effects (ADR).
- Hypersensitivity reactions: Rash.
- Psychiatric: mental disorders, restlessness, agitation, diplopia, headache, insomnia, drowsiness, and feeling of suffocation.
- Digestive: gastric ulcers, thirst, heartburn, stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, increased appetite, and diarrhea.
- Urinary system: polyuria, dysuria.
- Cardiovascular: Hypertension.
- Hematological: leukocytosis, thrombosis.
- Skin: Eczema, acne, melasma, subcutaneous hemorrhage, purpura, hirsutism, hair loss, itching, and sweating disorders.
- Endocrine: menstrual disorders, diabetes, acute adrenal insufficiency, and growth inhibition in children.
- Musculoskeletal: osteoporosis, steroids myopathy, myalgia, and arthralgia.
- Ophthalmology: subcapsular cataract and glaucoma.
- Other side effects: infection, discomfort, moon face, fever, and weight gain.
When experiencing side effects of the drug, the patient should stop using the drug and notify the doctor or go to the nearest hospital for timely treatment.
