Uses of Piafager

Piafager belongs to the group of drugs that act on the respiratory tract and is made in the form of a syrup. Piafager drug with main ingredient is Salbutomol indicated in the treatment of bronchospasm in bronchial asthma, chronic bronchitis, emphysema.

1. Mechanism of action of Piafager

Piafager contains beta-adrenergic stimulant salbutamol which acts selectively on beta 2 receptors on bronchial muscles and rarely on cardiac receptors at therapeutic doses. Because Piafager has a selective bronchodilator effect and has no cardiovascular effects, it is suitable for the treatment of bronchospasm in patients with concomitant heart disease or blood pressure.
Piafager is also highly active in preventing the release of histamine caused by antigens and substances formed in slow-acting anaphylaxis. Type 1 hypersensitivity reactions can be considered as the first onset of allergic asthma syndrome.

2. Indications and contraindications to use Piafager

Piafager brand name drug is indicated for use in bronchospasm in the form of bronchial asthma , chronic bronchitis , emphysema . Piafager is quite suitable in the treatment of adults and children orally in liquid form.
However, Piafager is also contraindicated in cases of hypersensitivity to the components of the drug. People with threatened miscarriage in the first 6 months of pregnancy should not use Piafager. In addition, Piafager is also contraindicated for patients who are taking MAOIs in treatment.

3. Dosage and how to use Piafager

It takes 4 to 6 hours for most patients to use Piafager to see the effects of the drug. When increased use of beta 2 agonists may be indicative of advanced asthma, in these cases a re-evaluation of the treatment regimen should be warranted and concurrent treatment with glucocorticosteroids considered. Therefore, during treatment, there may be side effects related to the use of high doses or increased frequency of use of the drug.
For adults, the usual effective dose is 10ml of syrup corresponding to 4mg of salbutamol taken 3 to 4 times a day. If the patient does not achieve an adequate bronchodilator effect, the single dose may be increased to 20 ml of syrup equivalent to 8 mg of salbutamol. In some patients, an adequate bronchodilator effect was achieved with a dose of 5 ml of syrup equivalent to 2 mg of salbutamol administered 3 to 4 times a day. For children: Children 2 to 6 years old apply a dose of 5ml of syrup equivalent to about 1 to 2 mg of salbutamol and taken 3 to 4 times a day. Children 6 to 12 years old apply a dose of 5ml of syrup equivalent to 2mg of salbutamol and taken 3 to 4 times a day. Children over 12 years old apply a dose of 10ml of syrup equivalent to 2 to 4 mg of salbutamol taken 3 to 4 times a day. For special disease groups such as the elderly or those sensitive to beta adrenergic stimulants, Piafager should be started with a dose of 5m syrup equivalent to 2mg of salbutamol taken 3 to 4 times a day.
In case of Piafager overdose, patients often have transient beta-hyperthyroidism. Occasionally, patients may experience hypokalemia, so serum potassium should be monitored. In cases of patients with lactic acidosis when overdosed with Piafager, the serum lactate concentration is usually monitored and the metabolic acidosis may be indicated in case of overdose.

4. Unwanted side effects when using Piafager

Piafager may cause some unwanted side effects during treatment. However, with each case Piafager can occur in varying degrees from mild to severe.
Some common side effects caused by Piafager include: headache, tachycardia, palpitations, cramps, etc. These side effects may occur at the start of treatment or after when increasing the dose of Piafager. Usually, side effects from Piafager can be transient or subside over time.
However, in some cases Piafager can cause serious unwanted side effects with rare reactions. These reactions may appear within minutes of using Piafager or may take longer than a few days. In the presence of serious side effects such as: hypersensitivity reactions with angioedema, urticaria bronchospasm, hypotension, vasoconstriction, increased arrhythmia activity, atrial fibrillation, peripheral vasodilation, feeling of muscle tension... the patient should stop using Piafager and seek immediate medical assistance.
