What is Mucosta? Uses and dosage

Mucosta has the active ingredient rebamipide, which is a prescription drug that acts as a protective agent for gastrointestinal mucosal cells. Accordingly, the use of Mucosta is used in the treatment of gastric ulcers and gastritis. The following information is necessary before taking the drug and to monitor during treatment.

1. What is Mucosta?

Mucosta is the brand name of the active ingredient rebamipide. This is an amino acid derivative of 2-(1H)-quinolinone, used to protect the mucosa, heal gastric and duodenal ulcers and treat gastritis. The mechanism of action of the drug is by enhancing mucosal protection, scavenging free radicals and temporarily activating genes encoding cyclooxygenase-2.

Several studies have shown that rebamipide can counteract the harmful effects of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) on the gastrointestinal mucosa, including the small intestine. However, the drug's ability to protect against gastric damage caused by naproxen has not been clearly demonstrated.

2. What is the use of Mucosta?

Mucosta or rebamipide has the main ingredient available in both oral and ophthalmic forms. The oral form of this drug acts as a mucosal protectant and is used to treat ulcers in the stomach and intestines in adult patients. The ophthalmic form of this drug is used to treat dry eyes. In particular, the effect on the digestive tract plays a major role in the use of Mucosta. Therefore, the indications of rebamipide are prescribed for the treatment of gastric ulcers, duodenal ulcers and gastric disorders including the following:

Indicated in cases of bleeding, erosion, inflammation and edema or all signs of damage to the gastric mucosa in general, occurring in the context of acute gastritis and acute exacerbation of chronic gastritis. Indicated as an effective and safe drug in the treatment of recurrent oral mucosal ulcers in Behcet's disease.
