2. Effects and indications for use of Emanera 40mg
Effects of Emanera 40mg:
The active ingredient Esomeprazole has the activity of inhibiting the gastric proton pump. In the acid compartment of the parietal cell, the active ingredient Esomeprazole will be protonated and converted into active achiral sulfenamide. Thereby inhibiting its activity and the parietal cell secretes H + ions into the stomach.

3. How to use and dose Emanera 40mg?
3.1. Dosage of Emanera 40mg
Treatment of symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux:
- Support treatment of reflux esophagitis: Take 40mg of Emanera daily for 4 weeks. If the patient still has inflammation, consider using it for another 4 weeks.
- Prevention of the risk of recurrence of esophagitis: The daily dose of Emanera is 20mg.
- Gastroesophageal reflux disease: For patients without reflux esophagitis, take 20mg daily.
- Combined with other antibiotics to kill Helicobacter pylori bacteria: Take 20mg in combination with 1g Amoxicillin and 500mg Clarithromycin, twice daily for 7 days.
Dosage of Emanera 40mg for patients taking NSAIDs:
Prevention of gastric ulcers caused by NSAIDs: Take 20mg daily. Use for 4 to 8 weeks.
Prevention of gastric ulcers in people at risk of gastric-duodenal complications but need to continue using non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs: Take 20mg daily.
Treatment of Zollinger-Ellison syndrome:
The initial dose of Emanera is 40mg, taken twice daily. Then, depending on the patient's response to the drug, adjust the dose accordingly.

4. Side effects of Emanera 40mg
When using Emanera 40mg, you may experience some of the following unwanted effects:
- Common: Headache, abdominal pain, constipation, diarrhea, bloating, nausea
or vomiting; - Uncommon: Metabolic and nutritional disorders such as peripheral edema, insomnia, dizziness, paresthesia, drowsiness, dry mouth, increased liver enzymes, itching or rash on the skin, more dangerous is bone fracture;
- Rare: Leukopenia and thrombocytopenia, fever, angioedema, anaphylactic shock, hyponatremia, agitation, confusion, depression, taste disturbance, blurred vision, dizziness, bronchospasm, gastrointestinal candidiasis, hepatitis with or without jaundice, severe hair loss and photosensitivity, joint and muscle pain, interstitial nephritis, personality changes, increased sweating;
- Very rare: Blood and lymphatic system disorders (leukopenia, pancytopenia); metabolic and nutritional disorders (hypomagnesemia); hepatobiliary disorders (encephalopathy in patients with pre-existing liver disease, liver failure); skin and subcutaneous tissue disorders (toxic epidermal necrolysis, erythema multiforme, Stevens-Johnson syndrome); other side effects such as irritability, hallucinations, muscle weakness, gynecomastia or microscopic colitis.

5. Drug interactions
When Emanera 40mg is used at the same time with antibiotics such as Clarithromycin or Penicillin, it can increase the concentration of Esomeprazole and antibiotics in the blood, easily causing a dangerous overdose for the patient's health.
When Emanera 40mg is used at the same time with Diazepam, it can reduce the clearance of Diazepam by 45%, increase toxicity and cause symptoms of drug poisoning.
When Emanera 40mg is used in combination with Atazanavir, it will reduce the concentration of Atazanavir. Therefore, these two drugs should not be used together.
6. Notes on using and storing Emanera

Emanera 40mg is not indicated in the following cases:
- People who are sensitive to the active ingredient Esomeprazole, the Benzimidazoles group or any ingredient of the drug;
- Patients with rare genetic problems such as fructose intolerance, glucose-galactose malabsorption or sucrase-isomaltase deficiency should not use Esomeprazole.
7. Caution when using Emanera 40mg

Emanera 40mg can reduce vitamin B12 absorption. Therefore, it is necessary to consider using the drug in people with reduced vitamin B12 reserves or at risk of reduced vitamin B12 absorption during long-term treatment;
Patients at risk of osteoporosis should be cared for according to clinical guidelines, supplemented with appropriate amounts of vitamin D and calcium.
