1. What are the uses of Claritek?
Claritek's main ingredient is Clarithromycin USP 250 mg, an active ingredient with antibacterial effects that can kill bacteria, especially Mycobacterial strains.
Claritek treats various diseases, including respiratory tract infections such as sinusitis, pharyngitis, bronchitis, and pneumonia; skin and soft tissue infections; leprosy; acute otitis media in children; and gastrointestinal ulcers.
In addition, the drug is also used in the treatment of disseminated or localized infections caused by Mycobacterium chelonae, Mycobacterium avium; prevent the migration of Mycobacterium avium complex, which causes lung disease in HIV patients.
2. How to use - Dosage of Claritek
Claritek can be taken before or after meals. This medicine is mixed with oral suspension, so the solution is not highly homogeneous, and we need to shake it well before drinking it. Drink enough for at least 7 days to ensure no antibiotic resistance.
Dosage:
- Adults with tonsillitis: Use a dose of 10ml/time, 2 times/day, for at least 10 days
- Adults with acute sinusitis: Use a dose of 20ml/time, 2 times/day, for at least 2 weeks
- Adults with acute bronchitis caused by S. pneumoniae and M. catarrhalis: Use a dose of 10ml/time, 2 times/day, for 1-2 weeks; for acute bronchitis caused by H. influenzae, use 20ml/time, 2 times/day, for 1-2 weeks.
- Adults with pneumonia caused by S. pneumoniae and M. pneumonia: Use 10ml/time, 2 times/day, for 1-2 weeks.
- Adults with dermatitis: Use 10ml/time, 2 times/day, for at least 1-2 weeks.
- Children from 1 to 2 years old: Use 2.5ml/time, 2 times/day
- Children from 3 to 6 years old: Use 5ml/time, 2 times/day
- Children from 7 to 9 years old: Use 7.5ml/time, 2 times/day
- Children from 10 to 12 years old: Use 10ml/time, 2 times/day
- Children with Acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) weighing 8-11 kg: Use 2.5-5ml/time, 2 times/day
- Children with AIDS weighing 12-19 kg: Use 5-10ml/time, 2 times/day
- Children with AIDS weighing 20-29 kg: Use 7.5-15ml/time, 2 times/day
- Children with AIDS weighing 30-40 kg: Use 10-20ml/time, 2 times/day
3. Contraindications of Claritek
People with pre-existing hypersensitivity to any ingredient in the drug, including those hypersensitive to Macrolide antibiotics, should not use Claritek. The drug should also not be taken with some other medicines, including cisapride, pimozide, astemizole, or terfenadine.
4. Precaution when using Claritek

- Quinidine or disopyramide: Can cause torsades de pointes, so patients need monitoring of plasma concentrations
- Lovastatin or simvastatin: Causes skeletal muscle degeneration.
- Zidovudine in adults with HIV: Reduces steady-state concentrations of Zidovudine.

7. Overdose, missed dose of Claritek
