  • Inflammation, swelling, pain after trauma and surgery: after orthopedic surgery, periodontal surgery.
  • Pain and/or inflammation in gynecology such as adnexitis, primary dysmenorrhea.
  • Supportive treatment of infections with severe ear pain, severe rhinitis or throat inflammation such as pharyngitis, tonsillitis, otitis.
  • In addition, Voltaren suppository is also indicated in a number of other cases when prescribed by a doctor.

3. How is Voltaren suppository used?

Voltaren suppository is used as prescribed by a doctor. You can refer to the following dosage:

• For people aged 18 and over
The recommended initial dose is 100-150mg/day divided into 2-3 times/day. In mild cases or patients who have used Voltaren suppositories for a long time, the recommended dose is 75-100mg/day divided into 2-3 times/day.

The maximum dose is 150mg/day divided into 2-3 times/day.

• Patients with primary dysmenorrhea

The initial dose is 50-100mg/day, the dose is adjusted according to each patient and the level of pain of the disease. The maximum dose is 200mg/day.

• Dosage for patients with migraine attacks

When there are the first signs of an impending attack, start using Voltaren suppositories at 50mg/day. If necessary, you can take additional suppositories up to a dose of 100mg on the same day. The maximum dose is 150 mg/day and must be divided into several doses during the day.

For the elderly, the lowest effective dose should be used depending on each patient.
Voltaren suppository dosage in children

Treatment of juvenile rheumatoid arthritis: The maximum dose is 3 mg/kg body weight/day, divided into several doses during the day. The maximum dose should not exceed 150 mg/day.

Voltaren suppositories should only be used in doses of 12.5 mg or 25 mg for children and adolescents under 15 years of age. The doses of 50 mg and 100 mg should not be used for children and adolescents under 15 years of age.

Voltaren suppositories are used by inserting deep into the rectum. Should be used after defecation.

4. Side effects of Voltaren suppositories

Voltaren suppositories can cause unwanted effects. Common side effects of Voltaren suppositories include:

  • Headache, dizziness, vertigo
  • Abdominal pain, bloating, indigestion, loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting.
  • Hives
  • Anaphylactic shock
  • Jaundice, increased transaminases.
  • Chest pain, heart failure, anxiety, palpitations, myocardial infarction.

5. Contraindications of Voltaren suppositories

• Patients with a history of allergy or hypersensitivity to any ingredient of Voltaren suppositories.
• Patients with severe renal failure, liver failure, severe heart failure.
• Due to the possibility of uterine atony, heavy bleeding after birth and according to studies, diclofenac enters breast milk in small amounts. Therefore, absolutely do not use Voltaren suppositories after giving birth and women in the last 3 months of pregnancy
• Patients with ulcers, bleeding, perforation of the stomach or intestines.
• Patients with proctitis.
• Patients with a history of asthma attacks, urticaria, acute sinusitis caused by acetylsalicylic acid or other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.

6. Precautions when using the drug Voltaren suppositories

• To minimize the risk of unwanted side effects of the drug, use the drug at the lowest daily dose to achieve effectiveness in the shortest possible time.
• Be careful when using Voltaren suppositories in patients with asthma, seasonal allergic rhinitis, COPD, nasal polyps.
• When using Diclfenac, it can damage liver function, hepatitis without warning symptoms.
• Voltaren can temporarily inhibit platelet aggregation. Patients with bleeding disorders need to be carefully monitored when using rectal Voltaren.
