Collaboration in initiating breast cancer screening campaigns and raise awareness in Vietnam

According to statistics from the World Health Organization (WHO), in 2020, an estimated 2.3 million women worldwide were diagnosed with breast cancer, with 685,000 cases resulting in death. Breast cancer is currently the most common cancer among women in Asian countries, including Vietnam. In 2020, Vietnam recorded 21,500 new cases and 9,000 deaths due to breast cancer.

In October - Breast Cancer Awareness Month is an annual international health campaign launched by many countries around the world to raise awareness of the dangers, prevention methods, diagnosis, and treatment of breast cancer. On this occasion, GE Healthcare and TD Medical have collaborated with the Vinmec Healthcare System to implement a free breast cancer screening program at 26 on-site screening centers in provinces and cities, including Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Hai Phong, Ha Long (Quang Ninh), Da Nang, Nha Trang (Khanh Hoa), and Phu Quoc (Kien Giang). The goal is to provide free screening services for 8,000 women by the end of 2022. Alongside the free breast cancer screening activities, educational seminars on the importance of early screening and regular check-ups will also take place at on-site screening centers in residential areas managed by Vinhomes and the Vinschool Education System

Ms. Le Thuy Anh, CEO of the Vinmec Healthcare System, stated: "The current breast cancer rate in Vietnam is lower than in developed countries, but it has been alarmingly increasing in recent years. Particularly, the age of breast cancer patients is gradually getting younger. Therefore, Vinmec believes that providing information and early screening for breast pathologies will help reduce the burden on patients and society, enhance the effectiveness of treatment, and improve the quality of life for everyone. Hence, we actively collaborate with GE Healthcare and other partners in initiatives for Breast Cancer Awareness Month, specifically, and a series of community health education programs and breast pathology screening in 2022 with the goal of delivering practical value and improving the quality of healthcare for women and the community."
