Question
Hello Doctor,
For the past four days, I have been eating about half of a red-fleshed dragon fruit each day. Over the last two days, I've noticed that my urine appears orange and seems slightly red. I'm worried about my health. I plan to monitor this for two more days, but I would like to know if is it normal to have light red urine after eating red-fleshed dragon fruit. Thank you for your advice.

Hello,
Regarding the question, "Is it normal to have light red urine after eating red-fleshed dragon fruit?" the doctor responded as follows:
Dragon fruit, which grows on the Hylocereus cactus, also known as the Honolulu queen, is a flowering plant that blooms only at night. This fruit is native to Central America and southern Mexico, but it is now primarily cultivated in tropical regions around the world.
Dragon fruit is rich in valuable nutrients for the body. It is an excellent source of fiber, iron, and magnesium. With its high magnesium and fiber content and very low calories, dragon fruit is considered nutritionally beneficial and can contribute to overall health. If you notice light red urine, it is advisable to stop eating dragon fruit and monitor your condition. If the urine remains light red, you should seek medical attention at a healthcare facility.
If you have further questions about light red urine after consuming red-fleshed dragon fruit, feel free to visit any medical facility within the Vinmec Health System for an early examination and treatment. Thank you for trusting us with your questions. Wishing you good health.
