Uses of Zivastin

The drug Zivastin is made in the form of tablets, with the main ingredient being Betahistine dihydrochloride. The drug is used in the treatment of tinnitus, dizziness, ...

1. What does Zivastin do?

What does Zivastin do? 1 pill Zivastin belongs to the group of psychotropic drugs, the main ingredient is Betahistine dihydrochloride 16mg and excipients. Betahistine has a histamine H1 agonist, an H3 antagonist, and has no H2 activity. Betahistine relaxes the precapillary sphincter, increasing blood flow in the inner ear.
Zivastin can control the permeability of the inner ear capillaries, thus eliminating the accumulation of inner ear lymphatic fluid. In addition, the drug also improves cerebral circulation, increasing blood flow in the internal carotid artery. Therefore, clinically, Betahistine is effective in reducing dizziness and lightheadedness.
Indications : Treatment of people with Meniere's syndrome is determined by the following common symptoms:
Dizziness (vertigo, dizziness and accompanied by nausea/vomiting); Difficulty hearing or hearing loss; Tinnitus (sound perception in the inner ear is not adequate compared to the sound outside); Symptomatic treatment of vestibular vertigo (eg, feeling dizzy and often accompanied by nausea, vomiting, even when standing still). Contraindications: Do not use Zivastin in people who are hypersensitive to the active substance or any of the excipients in the drug or who have an adrenal tumor known as pheochromocytoma.

2. How to use and dose Zivastin

How to use: Use Zivastin orally directly.
Dosage:
Betahistine 8mg and 16mg: The adult dose is 24 - 48 mg per day, divided into several times a day; For 8mg tablets: 1-2 tablets/time x 3 times/day; For 16mg tablets: 1⁄2 - 1 tablet/time x 3 times/day; Children: Zivastin is not recommended for use in children under 18 years of age because there are insufficient data to support its safety and efficacy. Missed dose: If a patient forgets to take a dose of Zivastin, do not take a double dose to make up for the missed dose. Patients should consult their doctor to use the right medicine, at the right dose.
Overdose: There have been a few cases of overdose of Zivastin:
Some patients have mild to moderate symptoms when using doses up to 728mg such as: Drowsiness, nausea, abdominal pain; More serious complications such as: Convulsions, heart or lung complications have also been reported in cases of intentional overdose of Betahistine, especially in combination with other overdosed drugs; Treatment of overdose includes basic supportive measures.

3. Side effects when using Zivastin

There have been reports of some side effects when using Zivastin, specifically:
Nervous system: Headache, insomnia; Digestive system: Indigestion and nausea; Immune system: Hypersensitivity reactions; Cardiovascular system: Palpitations. Patients and family members should note that they should notify their doctor of side effects when using Zivastin for timely treatment.

4. Be careful when using Zivastin

Some things patients need to keep in mind before and while using Zivastin are:
Caution when using the drug in patients with a history of peptic ulcer; Clinically, betahistine intolerance has been reported in some patients with bronchial asthma. Therefore, caution should be exercised when using Zivastin for this subject; Care should be taken when using Zivastin for driving and operating machinery because the drug can cause headaches; Use of Zivastin in pregnancy and lactation: Pregnancy: There are no adequate data on the use of Betahistine in pregnant women. There is still a lack of studies on the effects on pregnancy, embryo/fetal development, reproduction and neonatal development. Therefore, Zivastin should not be used during pregnancy unless absolutely necessary; Lactation: It is not known whether Betahistine is excreted in human milk. Therefore, the benefits of treatment to the mother and the possible risks to the child should be weighed before deciding to use the drug in a nursing woman;

5. Zivastin drug interactions

Some drug interactions with Zivastin patients should be aware of are:
If you are using monoamine oxidase inhibitors, drugs used to treat depression or Parkinson's disease, the patient needs to inform the doctor because of these drugs. May increase the effects of Betahistine. Betahistine is structurally similar to histamine, so drug interactions between Betahistine and antihistamines could affect the effectiveness of one of these drugs. During the use of Zivastin, the patient should pay attention to follow the instructions of the doctor. Patients should inform the doctor about the drugs they are taking, recently taking, their medical history so that the doctor can prescribe the use of drugs, adjust the medicine or monitor their health appropriately. Patients should not arbitrarily stop taking the drug, change the dose or start using a new drug without consulting their doctor.
