Acute renal failure is defined as a sudden decrease in glomerular filtration rate. This is a common problem in intensive care with an incidence ranging from 20% to 70%. The clinical manifestations of acute renal failure in intensive care vary greatly in each setting depending on the location of the kidney injury. However, a sudden decrease in renal function will disrupt the intracellular environment and become life-threatening if not corrected promptly.
