G protein-coupled receptors and their signaling pathways are promising targets for the treatment of NAFLD. Accordingly, studies of the gut-hepatic axis are rapidly contributing to the collection of evidence that dysbiosis of the gut microbiota contributes to NAFLD progression through multiple mechanisms.
