Diabetes is a chronic disease that is common in people aged 50 and over, however, diabetes is currently becoming increasingly younger, especially in developing countries due to the influence of lifestyle.

Prediabetes is when blood sugar levels are higher than normal but not high enough to be considered diabetes. Prediabetes is diagnosed when blood sugar levels are between 5.6-6.9 mmol/L or HbA1c levels are between 5.7-6.4%, or when the patient performs a prediabetes test, the glucose tolerance test, and the blood sugar index 2 hours after performing the test is between 7.8 - 11mmol/L.

Testing for prediabetes is done in the same way as for diabetes. However, blood glucose levels are lower in people with prediabetes than in people with diabetes.
