Ovarian cysts in infants, children and adolescents
Cystic ovarian tumors are quite common in girls and can occur at any age from the fetal period to adolescence. These tumors can be detected incidentally through diagnostic imaging methods or in combination with some symptoms such as abdominal pain, palpable tumors, precocious puberty, and virilization. Although most of these tumors in children are benign or physiological cysts, early diagnosis and close monitoring are necessary to reduce the risk of ovarian torsion that can affect future reproductive function as well as improve prognosis in cases of malignant tumors.
