Role of cranial MRI in epilepsy
Epilepsy is a common disorder of the nervous system. It is important to distinguish between seizures and epilepsy. Approximately 4% of the population will experience at least one seizure during their lifetime. In patients with first-time seizures, brain MRI is usually normal because seizures can be triggered by fever, drugs, dehydration, or sleep deprivation. The term epilepsy is used for spontaneous and recurrent seizures.
