Chylous pleural effusion in a clinical case of large B-cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma
Chylous pleural effusion is a rare complication of both traumatic and non-traumatic events, occurring in approximately 2% of adult pleural effusions. An estimated 2.4 liters of chyme is transported each day through the lymphatic system. Injury or rupture of the thoracic duct can cause a rapid and massive accumulation of chyme in the pleural space.
