What is the diet for people with mesenteric lymphadenitis?

Question

Dear doctor,

I would like to ask about the diet for people with mesenteric lymphadenitis. What kinds of meat and vegetables can I eat? Can I eat sweet foods and bread? I had a stomach ache and was hospitalized for a week and treated with antibiotics. When I went home, I was only told not to eat fatty and spicy foods.

Hello,

Regarding your question "What is the diet for people with mesenteric lymphadenitis?", I would like to provide the following answers:

Lymphadenitis is a condition in which the lymph nodes, which are tissues that help the body fight against diseases, become inflamed. Mesenteric lymphadenitis is  inflammation of the lymph nodes in the mesentery, which attaches the intestine to the abdominal wall. Mesenteric lymphadenitis is often caused by intestinal infections. The cause can be viral or bacterial.

You should eat easily digestible foods, drink plenty of water, and choose some liquid foods, toast, bananas, crackers, steamed vegetables, boiled potatoes and chicken, and avoid heavy seasoned snacks or spicy ones. If you feel nauseous, you should stop eating that food. It is best to avoid milk and dairy products for a few days when you have mesenteric lymphadenitis to give your stomach a rest as these products can upset your stomach. Alcohol, caffeine, and nicotine, as well as greasy foods, should also be avoided.

If you have any further questions about the diet for people with mesenteric lymphadenitis, you can go to a Vinmec Health System hospital for a check-up. Thank you for trusting and sending your question to Vinmec. Wish you good health.

Sincerely!
