Bisoprolol makes up most of Concor 5 mg. This medicine helps to considerably reduce blood pressure and treats hypertension.
1. Concor 5 mg: What effect does it produce?
Bisoprolol 5mg, which controls acute hypertensive episodes caused by activity and excitement, is the main ingredient of Concor 5 mg. It also aids in the dilation of blood arteries and concurrently slows down the heart rate. Thus, people use Concor 5 mg alone or in conjunction with other medications to treat hypertension and tachycardia.
Treatment and prevention Chronic coronary syndrome
Treating stable chronic heart failure with reduced left ventricular systolic function combines ACE inhibitors, diuretics—especially digoxin—with Concor 5 mg administered once a day has effects lasting 24 hours.
2. Dosage of Concor 5mg
2.1. Dosage for hypertension and coronary artery disease.
In all circumstances, the dosage will be changed for each individual, particularly based on their heart rate and treatment outcomes. The standard initial therapy dose is 5 mg bisoprolol (equivalent to 1 tablet of Concor 5 mg), given once a day.
For mild hypertension (diastolic blood pressure up to 105 mmHg), a daily dose of 2.5 mg or 1/2 tablet of Concor 5 mg is sufficient. If necessary, the dosage can be increased to 10 mg bisoprolol (equivalent to two Concor 5 mg pills) once a day. The highest recommended dose is 20 mg bisoprolol administered once a day.
2.2. Management of stable chronic heart failure.
Chronic heart failure is typically treated with angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors (or angiotensin receptor blockers if ACE inhibitors are not tolerated), beta-blockers, diuretics, and cardiac glycosides. A particular testing period is required before administering Concor 5 mg to patients with stable chronic heart failure, as well as regular medical monitoring.
Treatment of stable chronic heart failure (provided there is no acute heart failure) follows these guidelines:
- Week 1: 1.25 mg bisoprolol once a day; if the medication is well tolerated, increase the dosage.
- Week 2: 2.5 mg bisoprolol (1/2 tablet of Concor 5 mg) once daily; if well tolerated, increase dosage.
- Week 3: 3.75 mg bisoprolol once daily; if well tolerated, increase dosage.
- Weeks 4–7: 5 mg bisoprolol (1 tablet Concor 5 mg) once daily; if well tolerated, increase the dose.
- Weeks 8-11: Take 7.5 mg bisoprolol (equivalent to 1 1/2 Concor 5 mg tablets) once a day; if well tolerated, increase the dose.
- Week 12 and Beyond: As a maintenance dose, take 10 mg bisoprolol (equivalent to two 5mg Concor pills) once a day.
The maximum recommended treatment dose is 10 mg of bisoprolol per day. You should be monitored and kept on this dose unless it is impossible owing to side effects. Vital indicators (pulse, blood pressure, respiration, and heart rate) as well as signs of worsening heart failure should be regularly watched during the dose adjustment phase.
2.3. Treatment modifications
If there is a transient worsening of heart failure, hypotension, or bradycardia during the dose adjustment phase or following treatment, the treatment dosage of concomitant drugs should be reviewed. The dose of bisoprolol should be lowered temporarily, or the medication should be stopped if necessary. It is usually advisable to restart bisoprolol or increase the dose once the disease has stabilized.
The duration of treatment for all indications: Concor 5 mg is typically used as a long-term treatment. However, treatment can be discontinued if necessary and resumed when appropriate, as instructed by the treating physician.
3. Negative consequences of Concor
Slow heart rate is a common negative side effect, particularly in those with chronic heart failure. Furthermore, there may be an increase in heart failure, dizziness, headache, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, cold/numb hands and feet, hypotension, asthma, and fatigue.
Uncommon side effects include atrioventricular conduction disorders, slow heart rate, or increased heart failure level (in people with hypertension or Angina), bronchospasm in people with bronchial asthma or a history of airway obstruction), muscle weakness, cramps, sleep disorders, depression.
Rare adverse effects include increased triglycerides, hepatitis, elevated liver enzymes, fainting, decreased tears, hearing difficulties, allergic rhinitis, sensitivity reactions (itching, redness, rash), nightmares, and hallucinations.
Rare side effects, such as conjunctivitis and hair loss, might develop or worsen the Psoriasis condition.
Not everyone has adverse effects, and other reactions may occur. If you develop any dangerous or unexpected health symptoms while using this medication, please notify your doctor.
4. How to use Concor
Concor 5 mg should be taken in the morning, usually once a day, with or without meals. You should swallow the tablet whole with water and avoid chewing it. To acquire the best treatment results, take the drug at the same time every day.
Concor 5 mg helps to maintain blood pressure; however, it cannot cure hypertension completely. Even if your blood pressure is stable and you no longer have symptoms, don't stop taking the medication. Stopping the medication abruptly could lead to angina, myocardial infarction, or significant arrhythmia. Your doctor will urge you to gradually reduce the amount before discontinuing the medication entirely.
5. Notes for utilizing Concor
Before using Concor 5 mg, you should tell your doctor or pharmacist if:
- Pregnant or breastfeeding and intend to use the drug, or if you are already taking the drug and discover you are pregnant.
