Visanne 2mg is a drug prescribed for the treatment of endometriosis. To ensure effective treatment and avoid unwanted side effects, patients need to take the drug according to the prescription as directed by the doctor or pharmacist.
1. What is Visanne 2mg?
Visanne 2mg is a drug for the treatment of endometriosis. The main ingredient of Visanne 2mg is dienogest, a synthetic hormone that relieves pain caused by endometriosis. Endometriosis is a condition in which tissue similar to the lining of the uterus (endometrium) is found in other locations, usually in the pelvis, ovaries and fallopian tubes. Just as the endometrium responds to hormonal changes that lead to menstruation, this misplaced tissue also bleeds, causing pain, inflammation, scarring and possibly damage to the organs in the pelvic area. Visanne causes the endometrial tissue to shrink and relieve pain symptoms.
2. How to use and notes when using Visanne 2mg
Patients can start taking Visanne on any day of the menstrual cycle. The dosage of Visanne is one tablet per day without any break, preferably taken at the same time each day with an appropriate amount of liquid. Patients can take the tablets with or without food and must take the tablets continuously, regardless of vaginal bleeding. When finishing a pack, the next pack should be started immediately without any break.
The effectiveness of Visanne may be reduced in case the patient forgets to take the tablets, vomits and/or has diarrhea (if occurring within 3-4 hours of taking the tablets). In case of forgetting to take one or more tablets, you need to take one tablet as soon as you remember and then continue taking the tablets the next day according to the normal schedule. Do not take 2 tablets on the same day. If you vomit or have diarrhea within 3-4 hours of taking the medicine, take an additional tablet.
You should stop using hormonal contraceptives in any form (pills, patches, intrauterine devices) before starting treatment with Visanne. If contraception is necessary, you should use non-hormonal contraceptives (e.g. diaphragms). Do not use birth control methods based on basal body temperature or ovulation prediction, as the use of Visanne may cause changes that reduce the reliability of these methods.
Tell your doctor if you are taking any other medications or supplements, as some medications and supplements may interact and change the effect of Visanne and vice versa.
