2. Instructions for using Motilium 30ml
The nature of domperidone is a dopamine receptor antagonist with antiemetic properties, so it is used in the treatment of nausea and vomiting in adults, children, and infants.
The drug is used orally and should use the lowest effective dose for the shortest time to control vomiting and nausea.
For best results, patients should take the drug before meals. The maximum duration of use should not exceed one week. The dosage of the drug varies depending on the age of the patient, including:
- Adults and children 12 years of age and older and weighing 35kg or more: Take 3 times a day with a dose of 10ml/time.
- Children under 12 years of age, infants, newborns and adolescents weighing less than 35 kg: Motilium syrup for infants and children under 12 years of age can be prescribed at a dose of 0.25 mg/kg per dose. Take 3 times a day and should be taken at least 4-6 hours apart. It should be noted that the daily dose should not exceed 0.75 mg/kg. For example: For children weighing 10 kg, the dose is 2.5 mg per dose and can be taken 3 times a day with a maximum dose of 7.5 mg/day.
- Patients with impaired liver function: For patients with impaired liver function, Motilium is contraindicated in people with moderate and severe liver impairment. People with mild liver impairment do not need to adjust the dose.
- Patients with renal failure: People with renal failure will prolong the half-life of domperidone, so if using Motilium repeatedly, the number of times it is taken should be reduced to 1 to 2 times/day, depending on the degree of renal failure, the dose may need to be reduced. Note that the above dosage is for reference only. Depending on the condition of the disease and the patient's physical condition, the doctor will prescribe the appropriate dosage.
3. What should be noted when using Motilium?
The drug is contraindicated in the following cases:
- History of allergy to domperidone or any excipients of the drug.
- Patients with prolactin-secreting pituitary tumors
- Patients with moderate or severe liver dysfunction.
- Patients with prolonged QT intervals in the electrocardiogram or with significant electrolyte disturbances or congestive heart failure.
- Patients who are taking concomitant medications that prolong the QT interval.
- Patients who are taking concomitant medications that strongly inhibit CYP3A4.
