Matzim LA: Uses, indications and notes when using

This is an automatically translated article.

Matzim LA (diltiazem hydrochloride) is a nondihydropyridine calcium channel blocker used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension), to lower blood pressure.

1. Uses of Matzim LA

Diltiazem is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) and prevent chest pain (angina). Lowering high blood pressure helps prevent strokes, heart attacks, and kidney problems. When used regularly, diltiazem can reduce the number and severity of chest pain caused by angina. It can help increase your exercise capacity. Diltiazem is called a calcium channel blocker. It works by affecting the movement of calcium into the cells of the heart and blood vessels. As a result, diltiazem dilates blood vessels and increases blood and oxygen supply to the heart while reducing its workload. Diltiazem also lowers your heart rate. These effects help the heart work less hard and lower blood pressure.

2. How to use Matzim LA

Matzim LA can be used alone or in combination with other antihypertensive drugs. Matzim LA is also used to improve exercise tolerance in patients with chronic stable angina.
Take this medication by mouth with or without food, usually once daily at the same time or as directed by your doctor. Do not crush or chew extended-release tablets. Doing so can release the drug all at once, increasing the risk of side effects. Also, do not split the tablets unless they have an index line and your doctor or pharmacist tells you to. Swallow whole or tablets without needing to crush or chew. Depending on your specific brand, take this medication in the morning or at bedtime as directed. Consult your pharmacist if you have any questions about when to take your medicine.
Your doctor will probably gradually increase your dose. Follow your doctor's instructions carefully. The dosage is based on your medical condition, response to treatment, and other medications you may be taking. Be sure to tell your doctor and pharmacist about all the products you use (including prescription drugs, over-the-counter medicines, and herbal products).
Use this medicine regularly to get the most benefit from it. To help you remember, use it at the same time each day. Keep taking this medicine even if you feel well. Most people with high blood pressure do not feel sick. For the treatment of high blood pressure, it may take 2 weeks before you get the full benefit of this medicine.
This medicine must be taken regularly to prevent angina . It should not be used to treat angina when it occurs. Use other medicines (such as sublingual nitroglycerin) to relieve angina as directed by your doctor. Ask your doctor or pharmacist for more information.
Tell your doctor if your condition worsens (for example, your chest pain gets worse or your usual blood pressure readings increase).
