Duspatalin acts on the gastrointestinal tract, helping to alleviate symptoms of gastrointestinal muscle spasms and irritable bowel syndrome. To use Duspatalin safely and effectively, it is essential to understand its uses and precautions.
1. What is Duspatalin?
Duspatalin contains the active ingredient Mebeverine hydrochloride 200mg, a drug affecting the gastrointestinal system. Mebeverine is an antispasmodic that directly acts on the smooth muscles of the stomach and intestines without affecting the normal motility of the gastrointestinal tract. It acts through various mechanisms, such as reducing ion channel permeability, inhibiting norepinephrine reuptake, and altering water absorption. Through these mechanisms, Mebeverine has antispasmodic effects, promoting normal intestinal motility without reducing gastrointestinal tone.
Duspatalin is available in the following forms and strengths:
Duspatalin 200mg: Slow-release capsules containing 200mg.
Duspatalin 135mg: Tablets containing 135mg
2. Indications of Duspatalin
Duspatalin is used to relieve gastrointestinal smooth muscle spasms and is prescribed for:
- Irritable bowel syndrome causing abdominal pain and discomfort.

Some contraindications of Duspatalin include:

4. Precautions when using Duspatalin
Like other medications, Duspatalin may cause side effects such as skin rashes or allergic reactions. Although these cases are rare, allergic reactions can be very dangerous. If symptoms such as throat itching, difficulty breathing, or facial swelling occur, stop using the medication immediately and go to the nearest medical center for timely treatment.
If you have a history of allergy to any component of the drug, you must inform your doctor.
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is close to the next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and take the next dose at the usual time. Do not double the prescribed dose.
In cases of overdose, central nervous system irritation may occur. Currently, no specific antidote exists for overdose; treatment may involve gastric lavage and symptomatic management if needed.
For pregnant and breastfeeding women, there is no available safety data for these groups. Therefore, do not use the medication if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Additionally, Duspatalin should not be taken with alcohol. The medication should be stored at temperatures below 30°C and above 5°C, avoiding direct sunlight.
Finally, you should inform your doctor about any medications, vitamins, or supplements you are currently taking, before starting on a Duspatalin regimen.
The above is some information about Duspatalin. If you have any other questions while using the medication, consult your doctor or pharmacist. Although serious side effects are rare, they may be life-threatening. Therefore, individuals with suspected allergies should exercise extreme caution when using the drug.
